Discovering Ancient Vaults
Chose the scenario for being a vault ancient. very cool, very fun. so far, i've looted 2-3 other vaults, with the comms/broadcast hacking console. now, the vaults are spawning a bit further away from my colony than i'd prefer to travel, and time is ticking.

i'm curious. is the only way to spawn their quest through those consoles, or do they naturally happen via events? i end up feeling like if i dawdle, and either skip on the quest, or forget it, i'm not going to get more spawns.

can anyone confirm whether or not the quest happen organically, or am i stuck having to forcefully go to each one (or dev mode in the quest)?

You could always not hack the comms console and come back later?

iirc, as soon as you hack it, it activates the location for the next vault.

i have a mod for minify everything, so i've been able to minify the sleep caskets with the occupant still in them, and hauled them home to safely figure out if i want to keep them or not.

Why would you need to do that? Aren't the guys that show up considered your faction?

I think they mean they don't want to open any caskets until they're sure they want to get a new recruit.

this exactly. i dont want to have to waste resources on pawns that may be a pain in the ass. so i put them in the "opening" room, and as soon as they pop out, i check their stats, check their powers, and if i'm not satisfied with the RNG, i strip them, tuck them into the slingshot, and wish them good luck.

back on topic, where's the dev command for spawning ancient vaults? cant seem to find it

edit:, nvm, found it under "spawn site" in map dev commands.

You don't have to waste resources on a unwanted pawns anymore, just send them or any useless item to another vault using the supply launcher

and this is the solution, that i already do. i just want to minimize the time the "dud" pawn is out and about with my established colonists.

basically, i like hauling back the casket. waiting for a moment i'm ready to add another "good" pawn to the colony. open the casket, pause, check the bio/powers. if they suck, make them drop all of their gear on the floor right in front of the casket, and immediately walk to the slingshot. i dont want Joe Blows to even eat one of the meals i made for the colony, he's not worthy, lol

Yeah you will get random quests for Sealed and Locked Vaults playing as any faction actually. So you dont need an ancient broadcasting station to start the quests, you can just wait for a random one to pop up.

Can confirm, they do pop up randomly. My first was a looted vault, but the broadcaster revealed another one, which when that was looted revealed another after that. Given how long they last for, if you can raid one successfully (or just to the broadcasting station), you can keep raiding them consistently and never lose them

Use the interrogation option that isolationist gives you on prisoners. Eventually one of the quests they spawn will be either a new sealed vault or a vault ruin. The latter will still have a transmitter in it leading to another vault.

yes. it placed a vault on the map. it's been so long since i did it that i cant remember whether it was placed exactly on the tile i click it on, or if it just spawned in the vicinity of my colony.

the bottom line, yes, it worked.

What are the triggers for the vault events? Playing a regular scenario without the isolationist meme, I had the sealed vault event fire early on before I was ready, so ignored it, it expired...and several years have passed now and I've not seen the event fire again?
Loki 22 Feb, 2022 @ 10:26pm
Seems like a pretty rare event but it does happen more than once if you don't follow the chain. Just rarely. I believe it can be spawned in the dev menu.
