Black Mesa Character Expansion Revised, BMCER for short, was designed to be installed on top of default BMCE. BMCE, while being fantastic mod, has always been notoriously hard to install. For BMCER I decided to attempt to streamline installation process and it should now be easier to install for most people. This will show three different starting points for installing BMCER.


- subscribe to this mod
- Start the game once so that it can download the files
- Close the game
- Check if you have Hazard Course mod installed. If you dont, and dont wish to use it, you can skip this next step entirely
- If you are using BMCE Romka HECU, install BMCER compatibility patch for that AFTER doing rest of these steps

- This step can also be used if you wish to install Hazard Course after installing BMCER
- If you have hazard Course installed, go to steamapps\workshop\content\362890\2329457048 and copy all its contents to steamapps/common/Black Mesa/bms/custom
- Unsubscribe from workshop version of Hazard Course
- Remove hcourse_misc_dir.vpk, BMCE comes comes with all the necessary files
- Proceed to one of three following steps, depending on your situation

- Recheck you actually subscribed to this mod, if not go back to "How to start installing"
- Download BMCE files.
- Place these in steamapps/common/Black Mesa/bms/custom
- Download BMCE HECU files or Romka's BMCE HECU files
- Place these in steamapps/common/Black Mesa/bms/custom
- No need to decompile anything
- Go to steamapps\workshop\content\362890\2668159678
- Make sure that BMCER folder is above default BMCE files. Do not remove any default BMCE related files
- If you have BMCEHD/BMHD installed, those should be above BMCER. You may have to switch around some folder names to make this work correctly.

- Recheck you actually subscribed to this mod, if not go back to "How to start installing"
- Go to steamapps\workshop\content\362890\2668159678
- Copy folder 1_BMCERevised to steamapps/common/Black Mesa/bms/custom
- Make sure that BMCER folder is above default BMCE files. Do not remove any default BMCE related files
- If you have BMCEHD/BMHD installed, those should be above BMCER. You may have to switch around some folder names to make this work correctly.

- Recheck you actually subscribed to this mod, if not go back to "How to start installing"
- Make sure you have ALL BMCE related VPK files installed and placed in your custom folder
- Remove any BMCE related FOLDERS from steamapps/common/Black Mesa/bms/custom (leave any BMCE related VPK files) but recheck you have all BMCE related VPK files installed
- Go to steamapps\workshop\content\362890\2668159678
- Copy folder 1_BMCERevised to steamapps/common/Black Mesa/bms/custom
- If you have BMCEHD/BMHD installed, those should be above BMCER. You may have to switch around some folder names to make this work correctly.
