Modifying the files to disable research requirements
Things to know before you start

1. The location of the "steamapps" folder where your Steam games are installed (can be found by right clicking a game -> properties -> local files -> browse local files, and going up one folder)

2. Where Paradox stores HOI4 mods on your disk (for me on windows, Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\mod)

Modifying the files

1. Go into your steamapps folder and go into workshop/content/394360. Copy the folder "2707538501" into your HOI4 mods folder. Rename it to something else, like "IndustrialExpansionNoResearch".

2. In the same HOI4 mods folder, copy the file "ugc_2707538501.mod" and rename it to the same name you made the folder from before, keeping the ".mod". So in this example, "IndustrialExpansionNoResearch.mod"

3. Open this file in a text editor, and remove the lines starting with "path=" and "remote_file_id=" if they are present. Also, on the line starting with "name=" you can change the name that will show up in the launcher if you like, but it's not required. Just remember it has to be surrounded in quotation marks.

4. Go into the folder copied from before, "IndustrialExpansionNoResearch" for this example. In it, there are a few things you will need to delete:
In the folder "interface", delete the file "countrytechtreeview.gui"
In the folder "common", delete the folder "technologies"

5. Now you should be able to load up HOI4 and the new mod will show up in your launcher. Disable the old one, enable the new one and you should be good to go.

If there are issues with this guide, comment below and I will fix them when I have the time.

When i do this, game loads and research and such works but now i cannot see the ability to create the industrial expansion builds themselves?

I know it's been a long time, but, just to clarify, you only deleted the "countrytechtreeview.gui" file and the folder "technologies"?

I know it's been a long time, but, just to clarify, you only deleted the "countrytechtreeview.gui" file and the folder "technologies"?
mhm! Also you can just go into the mod tab in the launcher and get to the folder with the three dots next to the mod if i recall. HOWEVER! anyone who plays with you with this modified version must have the same modifications
