Left 4 Dead 2

Salvation Falls
Kyle's Review of "Salvation Falls" - 3/5
Fundamentally solid despite lacking polish. 3/5 stars.

Salvation Falls is a fairly basic campaign in terms of features and content, but it has a grasp on the fundamentals of Left 4 Dead level design that many campaigns could learn from. Open areas aren't too big, closed areas aren't too small, and exploration feels just right. Vistas and atmosphere are the highlight of these levels, though — you can practically feel the mist on your skin as you traverse these scenic cliffs in the rain.

The only thing this campaign lacks is polish. There's no intro, hardly any dialogue or graffiti, and numerous visual goofs. Sometimes these goofs are small, like a prop floating in mid-air — but Map 2 is filled with surfaces that are so reflective they're blinding, and Map 3 is missing textures. Horde events are also inconsistent, with zombies either spawning too close to you so you never get breathing room, or too far away so there's no threat.

Still, it's fun and not too long. Why not give it a try?
