Well, to be more descriptive, shoot the wings. It should take out the engines. I recommend medium to heavy explosives for maximum efficency.

the engines are at the wings, if they turn orange, it means it is disabled, once all engines are disable, it will say "it is not dead yet" you have to shoot to his main body. Idk what is the main body but it's probably the entire body (except for the wings)

EDIT : destroy the body, only the one that are having a blue light, once if they explode, that mean a part of the body is destroyed, continue until all of his body are exposed (the only body part that need to be exposed is the body part that are having a blue light. ) once all of them are blown out, it dies

Every time I hurt it enough it runs away before I can finish it off. What should I do then?

Shoot the glowy engine thingies on the wings (or just demolish the wings).
If you are fighting the armoured version you gotta destroy the Q armor on its segments, revealing the nitroglycerin under it, shoot all of them and he dead, at least thats how I did it.
(ps: I used the disruptor mod to do it so try that if you can't do it)
