Suggestions and Considerations of How This Affects Combat
I absolutely love the idea behind this; I've always wanted to see tactically interesting shields, but could never conceive of how. After trying this out for a bit, I wanted to mention a couple considerations I had in mind. (I don't want to pester you for features, but I figure there are some interesting discussions to be had if nothing else.)
- It may add some desirable complexity and counterplay if certain damage sources could (optionally) bypass shields, particularly grinders and collisions.

- In the current design, an active jump drive always will be drained by damage, even in situations where it may have been more desirable leave the drive charged. In a combat-focused environment, I expect that this adds interesting decision-making to fights; the longer you stay engaged, the harder it is to escape.
One factor that I believe could negatively impact other playstyles, however, is that both parties are locked in the instant bullets are exchanged; the only way to jump out of a fight would, in most cases, be to have a secondary noshield jump drive ready to go.
I think it could introduce further decision-making if it were easy to toggle shield generation on the fly via a setting; particularly, I was keen on the idea of toggling recharge off to raise shields. I believe this would lend itself well to interesting situations; a charging ship would be vulnerable, leaving shields up wouldn't always be most desirable, and a captain would have to weigh the risks of continuing a fight, attempting to rebuild shields, or attempting to flee.

In the latest update a [NOSHIELD] tag can now be added to jump drives that should be excluded from the shield system.

I was aware at the time of writing, and I do think it's a very good feature to have. My line of thought was that it would be beneficial if there were a means of toggling the shield with a switch - although, now that I mention it, a similar functionality likely wouldn't be hard for individuals to configure with a programmable block.

There may be a way to do that and keep it a server side script. i do something similar with my Encom OS mod.

I'll look into that one
