Question regarding immunity

Does it provide immunity when wearing a respirator or gas mask with a filter? Or does it only reduce the chance of infection? Like it protects you 80% but still has a 20% chance of infection?
Just an example.

i think the better tier the more durability it has and more zombies u can be nearby like if ur using the sheet mask where u can craft right at the start it can only handle 3 zombies at a time 4 or more is prob death
