I just pushed a minor update that tweaks the intro lore and adds a reminder/warning of how dangerous the jungle is the first time you venture out. Hopefully that at least partially addresses your concerns.
The opening narration calls out the forest as a possible course of action, and the message that warns of danger when you first hop the wall just comes across as "the adventure lies this way!". So we took what looked like a plot hook, ran into the forest, and got killed by wolves.
We didn't realise that this was a sign that we had gone the wrong way, so we tried again, just about managed to kill the wolves, and then (still level one) triggered the fight with tons of bandits. We died again.
Only by coming to this page and looking at what people are saying (and the replies you've given) did we realise that going out into the forest at level 1 is a fool's errand.
I would suggest removing the mention in the opening narration about going over the walls, and instead encourage the players to stay in the town and do things in the fair. That way they're more likely to be level 2 when getting into the wolf fight.
The rest of the adventure has been awesome so far (we just hit level three), so I'm glad we stuck around because we were on the verge of quitting after a second seemingly-unavoidable death!
