Black Mesa: Unforeseen Consequences (1/5)
Black Mesa: Unforeseen Consequences - Review by Endless
★★★ 3/5: Incredibly beautiful but poorly executed

This full campaign, set in the world's favorite lab, brings with it a solid quality that is well stocked with a great touch of detail and good looks.

But that's about all that's good about it.

The gameplay itself isn't bad, but it's not great either. It's pretty traditional, a bit overwhelming at times, but nothing more. What makes it a bit annoying is simply the way the maps are designed. The over-detailing gets to a point where it becomes annoying, particularly due to the geometry of certain details. It's very common to get stuck while backtracking because you're running into some random detail. Things like this make the gameplay feel broken. Inhibits smooth movement.

The maps are also not very bot-friendly, so if you don't have friends to play with, you may not enjoy this one very well. Because of the way the levels progress, it can also be a bit confusing at times, and a bit of a pain to manage. One area in particular, where you have to wait for an elevator, is somewhat annoying due to how stupidly slow the elevator moves. It's simply a waste of time.

The ending suffers from being too linear. While you are welcomed into a spectacular scene with the incredible visuals of the dam, you end up fighting on a small bridge and enemies will come from in front and behind, and spawn so far away that it's easy to snipe them.

I don't consider Unforeseen Consequences to be a bad campaign at all. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I expected. I had high expectations for both the visuals and the gameplay. I was only satisfied with the visuals.
