Ghost ship issue
Hi, I'm new to SS, not played ESG for a few years so much is new for me.

I started as an engineer and am on the CV quest so I popped into space with my little SV and found this ghost ship.

I boarded it fine but had some issues accessing things, found the core and blew it... Then things got really weird, the ship started spinning wildly and I phased through the blocks.

I did finally manage to stop it's motion with my SV and slap a claim core down but I'm still phasing through it and cannot pick up my core anymore.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks.

Make sure you turn its thrusters off bud, that normaly fixes that problem.

I'll give it a try, thanks.

If I can properly claim one of these then it'll be a great start to my CV (im avoiding the factory in this save).

Unfortunately you will not be able to use as a cv the ghost ships are considered a base once you install a core in it they are non flyable I tried to do the same on my play through I wanted to use a ghost ship[ as my cv but the game will not allow it

Well... Drat.

Guess I'll have to get back to trying to find a usable CV hull...

You'd think with a salvage based scenario that there would be more usable CV hulls but all I can find are CV shaped bases.

Not a lot on the starter planets. Probably by design. But you should be able to find hull "wreckage" and then thrusters/etc on the POI "crashed ships". Hardest bit will be the control seat.

Control seat wasn't hard, just not exactly easy... Mind you I got a shield gen and warp drive at the same time.

I found a junk salvage drone flying around space, I took it over but couldn't control it so I took the parts and put them on a CV hull in one of the junk piles (the sv is oddly backwards so I have some building to do).

Yeah, that drone is also a new update. Have not seen one yet. I assume I need to go to another system I did not visit pre-update.

They glitch out like ghost ships until you take out the thrusters, saw one on a planet too, was super buggy there, phantom core, couldn't damage it at all, like it wasn't there.

Anyway these should probably be added to a faction in the future as it's too easy to get a ton of sweet loot early on without any RP penalty.

I've had wierd ghost ship interactions too. Slapped a salvage core into one and the core became immaterial. Could not target or touch it.

As others have mentioned with the ghost ship interactions. Turning off thrusters once you've placed a core helps. Sometimes after that you just have to wait a few minutes too. I've also found that if you can stop the spinning, or get it almost stopped anyway, the game will then "fix" the ship in place and you can interact with it. I think that when a ship is moving the game doesn't treat it the same and allow the same types of interactions with it as it does when it's stopped. And sometimes it takes the ship being stopped awhile before the game realizes it's stopped.

if your looking for a good CV Hull do a short warp in the starer system to one of the junk fields they tend to have 3 of 4 fields with CV hulls just make sure to bring some radiation protection with you. side note the ship with exudus on the side is the most complete I've seen so far just needs CV cockpit and some generator and a little pentaxied and you can warp it as is to where ever you want to perform the Refit at.

Yeah, I'm currently using the exodus hull, other than rebuilding 2 thruster banks it really didn't need much work to getting to space worthy. I did consider a Hakon but they need a ton more work.

Hoping to upgrade to a larger hull before much longer though.

Agreed, the Exodus is a good one. That funny shaped white barn-like SXV is also pretty easy to get going. There's also a little brown and tan CV that's pretty good and doesn't take may resources to restore to a capable early game CV. I've rebuilt that one many times both in Vanilla and Star Salvage. The sentinel takes a little more work but you can stick a lot of turrets on that and rework the rear bay to fit a shield generator. So many wrecks to rebuild, so little time ;)

I'm considering building my own CV from scratch, the hulls I'm finding are nice but none of them quite fit my needs.

I'm thinking about a large base CV with all the bells and whistles, a smaller CV docked to it for looting/scrapping in space.
A docking pad above where the second CV attaches for a combi SV that's a heavy lifter with 2 smaller SVs that are pure cargo.

A small shuttle bay in the main CV for a combat SV and a shuttle SV to move a harvester HV planetside.

I think that should cover all my bases...

Don't forget a 3x3x6 spot if you are doing the Exploration tree for one of those BIG detectors!
