Ok after about a dozen or so restarts figured out what you did, and finally found the 4 switches.
Only trouble is the dead ships are not dead. you get instant shot going out of the ship the wreckage isn't removable due to the core, of which you need to leave the ship by transporter.
No core no power. You should be neutral to the Polaris, yet the wrecked Pol freighter ship insta kills you. Or the ancient colony ship does. The Colony sleeper ship is literally surrounded.
A Friend and I have spent about 6 hr's of real time just finding all the switches. we are playing SP mode of the game. He's in Idaho and i'm in Oklahoma.
No power without that core, You cannot make one, and you do not get one anywhere on the ship. Or much less from the only 2 Hulls of ships that I have been able to get to without being instant killed. If you can get to them. Was really surprised they were just empty hulls.
You cannot put down the small universal constructor anywhere but on Terrain so that to is a no go even if you could get the mats to make it. I don't do magic in the game or outside of it either lol.
Only the drone can enter, that nacelle, and only through the outside hole in the wreckage. And only at one certain angle, it cannot activate the switches. Was the one hope I had of doing this.
You get instant shot when you try. The jet pack is a hindrance when trying to navigate tight corners to begin with.
Understand I like a challenge this isn't a challenge this is lunacy, I have over 3,775 hours in this game. And have done most everything at one time or another and I really like the premise of your scenario.
I don't know if you know but you Cannot jump when you crouch in the game, it's nearly impossible even with the jet pack to get in that short tunnel were you have to jump up and get in that low of a space. I finally did manage it. thinking I could some how get through that wreckage into the nacelle to turn that switch on.
Maybe you could ease up a bit on the wrecked ships being active considering they are suppose to be dead . I don't mind hard as long as it is doable, this isn't.
I didn't mess with the switches or the transporter but I did get inside the ancient colony ship after getting a space suit and a couple tries from a copied save. The green laser turrets are slow and not good at leading/hitting you if you do a lot of strafing while you approach. The interior turrets can't be dodged if they shoot at you, but they are slow to react if they can't see you coming and you can just sprint past.
I don't want to spoil too much but it's not quite as impossible as it may seem. It -is- possible to go out salvaging with just the free survival zapper, bring back parts to the hostile colony ship, and build stuff with the ancient beta constructors there. I started with engineering and had a small sv built and fueled entirely from salvage within about an hour after looting and leaving the starter cryo ship. Just stay away from the Polaris freighter, those turrets are much faster and more accurate.
The teleport moves you to the Ancient colony ship. Once there if you can make it to the bridge you can disable the interior security and the exterior turrets. I found it best to leave the outside ones alone as once the inside ones are disabled then you can take out the core in that ship and there is a lot of loot barrels hidden around that ship. Including being able to salvage those Alien turrets
The sad part was couldn't get to the final switch in the Colony switch , The Pol freighter killed me jumping across a hole inside the colony ship then proceeded to blow holes in the ship. After so many hours my friend left the game went to sleep, I had enough and went GD mode which ruins the whole affair, Just to flip that switch and find that the teleport moves you to the Ancient Colony ship.
If that's were the crew of the colony ship went they didn't live long. There are consoles on that ship but they wouldn't work for me " they instead gave a box interface to set them "
So thinking that this starter is bugged out rather badly here and there. My friend couldn't in his play through destroy any of the cores in any of the ships, even with the best weapons in the game.
We went into test mode after several hours of this. And both of us had verified our files several times. I had restarted the game and this starter several times as well completely deleting out this starter before doing so.
My friend and I are part of a modding team " Altered States Gaming "and are old beta testers to boot, and have been Server owners and operators for many years, so this is how our minds work when we run into a problem. I'm thinking that the Update might have messed up a few things here and there. Though haven't tried any of the other starter worlds as of yet.
And since our coder passed a couple years ago we haven't done much in the way of mods or Beta testing. We just decided to play games for a while.
My Buddy wants to set up a scenario but hasn't found anything to show him where to get started in this game as of yet. But would like a few pointers.
KnowItAllDM has been working on this for quite a long time and I've been playing and testing on and off since close to the beginning, so I'm pretty familiar with the tech trees and salvage life in general. It has come a long way but some RL stuff has prevented him from putting a lot of time into it recently. Yeah this last update broke a lot of things and he's still trying to add new stuff and polish the story missions, hence all the placeholders and blank consoles. That wasn't always the case.
Maybe a planet start would be less headache to learn the ropes, the space start has always been a really tough gig.
Now that I've gotten a few more hours in the space start, there's much better salvage and construction options farther out away from the central spawns if you can get a salvage core made and get out of range of the turret bullet hell. This is generally the same for planet starts whether you follow the story missions or not - get a small craft operational, use that to get far away from spawn, and the quality of some of the junk ships you'll find improves dramatically.
The Rossignol, Ancient Colony Ship, and Derelict Polaris Freighter are Story POIs, and are "Admin" Cored because of this. You shouldn't be able to take out the core of any of these three POIs.
The Derelict Polaris Freighter is not Polaris Faction, but rather "Mysterious Energy" faction, which will shoot at all factions except Ghost Ship. I DO plan on giving it a fixed location further away from the Ancient Colony Ship, and the Rossignol so that it doesn't interfere with the player in the beginning. This POI will be one of the initial "Exploration" Rank missions for the SSG start.
And now about that Ancient colony ship why so darn many turrets inside.
The teleport on the colony ship you wake up on sends you there. Only place a constructor is found. And it's a one way teleport to boot.
You don't have weapons or ammo to even begin to take out one turret much less the 30 to 40 that's inside that ship.
Also you Can't take them out if its Admin cored. Kinda makes the Loot barrels Moot in several places as some of them you have to remove some stuff to get to them.
Well here's hoping you take all this into account. And thanks again for clearing this up.
EDIT: Oh, I see now. Minigun Sentry 2. I wonder what weapons can damage them.
