Any ideas on how to fix the hand clipping?
Any suggestions on how the model could be changed to avoid that while still keeping the cool factor?

I'd say have a large hole in where the hand goes through

Sad to say but could just remove the door. Its a bit of a waste of effort and would be sad to see it go but overall I dont think it will have a massive impact on the look of the gun. Alternativly I think the only other way would be to do what is mentioned above and put a hole/crack just where the arm goes through. Its so sad thinking about Valve not adding this as its high quality reskin. As a loose cannon enjoyer I would say this is a solid 8/10 if not 9/10.

The coffin is so dinged up, why not just make the lid equally battered, with a chunk torn off right where the hand goes?

I'd say go with this idea, I like the door and think it adds character to the weapon, adding a hole specifically for Demo to just hold the weapon would work without removing the door entirely.

an alternative could just be for valve change the inspect animation to minimize clipping but if not what kye said could probably work

maybe take the door off and turn it into a shield?

Maybe You Could Put The Hand On The Side Of The Canon Idk If That Would Work Though Im Not a Weapon Designer

That would be sick, actually.
Having a shield is usually designed around a melee option, demoknight and the such, but having a shield tied to a grenade launcher would be rad as hell. Trying to find out how it would work stat wise would also be interesting.

This is a very good point! But what would it do exactly, besides simply making Demoman more tanky?
My immediate idea was to make it remove self-damage, allowing demomen to trade a charge for cannon-jumping, but that's a bit too niche, isn't it?

That wouldn't be too far from what I was thinking, reducing general damage but also removing self damage.
If I had to have an interesting idea, I'd say a full-charge bash should spook the enemy player for a second, but not guarantee a crit for the melee.

Not bad, although I could see people complaining about that due to how easy connecting a pipe would be against a scared opponent. Perhaps if it had a similar knockback effect to an airblast, allowing a skilled demoman to then hit them with a mid-air pipe?

That would look stupid and funny. I love it.
