I am open to any idea you may have for a quest, shop or NPC style, etc. Or if you have ran into an issue with the NPCs discuss that here as well.

Multiplayer compatibility

NPCs are compatible in multiplayer. Albeit they were designed for singleplayer.

Overview of the Metro camp

Your goal here is to rebuild the Metro survivor camp by completing quests and recruiting survivors, also known as NPCs, from around the map. Watch your hard work come to life as more and more survivors come to the Metro. Some quests unlock shops, some unlock more quests and some may simply increase the population.

The aim for this minigame is to create an immersive survivor camp builder. The quests you complete will have an impact on the camp. The more quests you complete, the more survivors there will be in the camp.

About the quests

It is highly recommended you do not abandon any of the quests as it will most likely break the dialogue of the survivor you acquired the quest from.

If you find yourself stuck on a quest, consult the quest guide posted in the description. If you do not see a guide in the description, there will be one made soon. If you do abandon a quest, it is recommended you reset your world to fix the dialogue.

I was unable to find a fix for this but as for right now the only solution is to reset your world. This seems to be a possible bug with the way survivor dialogue is handled.

How to recruit survivors to the camp

NPCs are broken down into three categories. Some survivors may fall into more than one category.
  • Quests
  • Shops/Vendors
  • General Dialogue

Quest survivors are just that. They grant quests to the player. Some quests may add an survivor to the camp while others may simply grant rewards

Shop, or Vendor, survivors allow the player to buy and sell items in exchange for notes, or money. It is recommended to keep your money stored in a piggy bank of sorts.

General Dialogue survivors are simple survivors the player can greet and speak to. Some survivors may not know the player and therefor will ask the player for their name.

To recruit an survivor, you may find them around the map and complete their required quest or by completing quests around the camp.

An NPC thats you inside the game. My idea is so big brain. (Also, are you able to make npc's for other people? I started a project a few months ago, its a western rp thingy and I need npcs.)

It's funny you mention that. I went back and forth between adding myself. I'll likely add me into the game somewhere at some point. Just for some giggles.

I appreciate you asking but I will have to pass. However, the program I used to make the NPCs is rather simple to use and makes the process of making NPCs a whole lot easier and faster. The program I used is called "BowieD Unturned NPC Maker"

Ernest and Travis are broken for me. For Ernest, I can't accept his quest. For Travis, I can't enter his shop.

What map version are you using? I just recently fixed overlapping dialogue IDs and in doing so there is a chance that dialogue might break for other NPCs. Try resetting your world and talking to them again. This is the only fix I was able to find and it seems to be a bug that's handled on Unturned's end.

I can't enter the Travis store, when I click on the dialog nothing appears :/

Travis' store should be fixed now. Not sure why his store broke. I looked for duplicate IDs, checked error logs, could not find anything. I remade him and his store has been opening fine so far while testing. Due to the amount of dialogue ID changes this update will require the map to be reset in order to fix any broken dialogue. Apologies as this seems to be handled on Unturned's end.

Also a question, is there any chance to obtain any sort of ranger loot? Like in pei you could find it in banks for example, would be cool to see it on your map aswell.

This has been a passion project of mine for a long time now and something I plan to work on and mold into something more or expand into Project Zomboid in the future. To keep with the lore I never had plans on introducing ranger weapons however with it being a requested feature a fair bit I'll add ranger loot to some difficult to reach locations, like the sewers, and spread out across my map in different locations. I'm happy you're enjoying my map! :)

Thats so cool! Would love to check out zomboid content aswell! Also would it be possible to add ranger ammo to gunsmith store? i remember it was tuff getting it on maps like washington or pei. The price would be more expensive than the military ammo.

I probably wont add ranger ammo to any major buildings but I wont make it impossible to get either. Just to keep with the lore/style I've been going with.

I ran into some problems texturing the models I made and the text on the buildings not being properly attached to said buildings. I spent a lot of time trying to fix the broken textures to no success. What will likely happen now is I'll move some of my ideas to The Final Days 3, such as adding custom houses with basements, but for now I think I'll have to move my further map making endeavors to Project Zomboid and revisit my idea for Unturned in the future.

It's a real shame I kept encountering these issues as my idea isn't one I've seen on Unturned before and I'd like to bring it to life. One way or another I'll figure something out.

oh and also is there a way to modify loot tables? (i am asking since i want to have custom guns to spawn)

You would have to unlock the map by placing an unlocker file in the map folder. If you don't know how to do this there are really easy to follow tutorials on YouTube. Once unlocked you open the map in the editor and add the ID of the custom gun to your desired spawn location.
