Ranger Rex has similar excellent qualities for land operations that the Columbia has at sea.
= For a bigger budget boat see the Yukon.
= The River series were all based around exploring similar boat being updated so keeping roughly the same size was part of the thought experiment.
= That size is based on two things. 1) The width of the starter dock. 2) The width of the Fraser which was a built around the confines of the very tight career starter budget
= The side placed seat was part of fitting both the pilot and a nearby medical bed within the limited hull width. My magic series boats like the Pike use center mounted seats.
= the boats do tend to tilt forward when at rest. This is more to do with the "beaching bow" which was needed more in the game before they finally added rope anchors at docks. Its the bow that doesn't provided as much flotation in order that at slow speed will nudge up for beaching. Also handy if doing rescues or explores on random islands.
= Screens are a fairly high budget item dollar wise. So I've favored keeping them for screen only things like map and radar.
= There is some talk as to whether having more microcontrollers would add to lag. Combining 4 buttons onto one would take an MC.
= Overhead buttons are a bit tricky to use and unconventional. Ergonomics of control placement is based on easy access to control for emergencies and frequent use. Lesser use items are in less convenient places like the roof.
