Some of the ideas I have are:
- Spike pit
- Surface spike trap
- Flame pit
- Surface flame trap
- Spinning flame totem (shoots fire out every few seconds while rotating around
- Boiling oil pit
- Surface oil spray trap
- Steam pit
- Surface steam trap
- Smoke pit (lethal, players choke to death from lack of oxygen)
- Smoke trap (non-lethal, just obtrusive)
- Shredder pit (designed to crush and mince players for the lions below :P)
- Surface blade trap (swings a blade in a vertical arc)
- Totem blade trap (a totem/pillar spins quickly and suddenly every few seconds, while it's moving, it will kill players on impact.
- Surface Jaws trap (spikes from nearby will swing upwards, snapping together, snaring players on the spikes inside, like a venus fly trap)
- Drunken spray trap (will spray intoxicating fumes into the air to cause players to have blurry/dizzy vision)
- Surface crusher trap (suspended is the air is a slab of stone which crashes down on anybody underneath it after 2.5 seconds of a player walking underneath)
- Surface arrow trap (will shoot arrows upwards, doesn't kill the player but will damage him)
- Surface ballista trap (same as arrow trap, but will kill players immediately, and launch them skywards :D
Another mode idea: I think a horde map + traps could be fun^^
I was going to put down "Springboard" trap, which is effectively a catapult trap (just the ground would rotate up very quickly and throw the player away and hurt him, but for some reason, I am picturing a giant trebuchet, flinging the player into the medieval space program :D
I experimented with this the day I released the map, and I plan to integrate it into my randomized arena layouts, it will be amazing :D
I have been looking at Torn Banner's arena to see how they do their audio etc.
The crowd that arena uses, have no legs unfortunately, so while I have tested LOTS of people in the crowd and it worked reasonably well, it looks stupid, as nobody has legs :P
I have a method I would like to use, and it makes use of instancing (for the sake of performance), so I may end up doing that when I get around to the final polishing up stages of the map.
I know my server could use another map for duel training xP
