Kyle's Review of "Dniepr (4.0)" - 4/5
Great (if it doesn't crash). 4/5 stars.

Dniepr is an unforgettable experience... when it works. On my PC, the 2.0 version always crashes in the finale, but the 4.0 version does not — however, nothing is guaranteed. Even if it doesn't crash, other bugs can ruin the fun, like bots teleporting to their doom in an elevator shaft.

If you can avoid the tech issues, though, you'll find a mod with impeccable atmosphere. The irradiated Slavic wastelands feel appropriately harsh, and you need to ration supplies since pickups are rare. The difficulty is higher than vanilla L4D2, but it creates a unique survival horror experience that's still generally fair (apart from an annoying lack of health items in Map 3).

Adding to the mod's uniqueness is its focus on open-ended exploration and finding key items to progress. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think Dniepr handles it well thanks to fair hints, focused level design and custom HUD elements.

Overall, I'd recommend Dniepr if you have a beefy PC.
