As for more variety of planet colors there's a mod that does that, it's called
Radiant Worlds that does exactly that, you should check it out!
Regarding hot and cold planets spawning relatively to distance inside the star system, I had this idea too but I have to see if it's doable without making too many changes.
Particularly I would not want to change the tier system progression. Gotta study celestial.config a little bit to see...
Truespace does that but it changes quite a lot in star systems generation like planes can have other planets types around the as satellites instead of only moons, it uses the spectral class[en.m.wikipedia.org] name used in Astronomy ("Class O", "Class M" and so on) instead of calling them "fiery stars, "frozen stars" and so on.
Check here after the weekend!

As well, it seems some modded dungeons base their size on planet width, so they wind up malformed in ways, such as having much of their underground corridors wind up above the ground.

Tell me if it's of your liking
Is it possible to 1) have gas giants always larger than their satellites orbiting them. (This is an issue I've noticed with every single planet enlarging mod)
2) to have the size of gas giants in the background/parallax of ship in orbit to vary depending on how close you are to it? Ex: gas giant appears much larger when you orbit its closest moon, vs its furtherst.
3) to have gas giants vary in size in general for both features mentioned above?
2) this is hardcoded too I think, sorry, only thing I noticed if you orbit around a gas giant you see the other satellites changing place in the backdrop.
3) not sure what you mean for this question. You mean have like small/medium/sized gas giants? I could try to look into it not sure how much of this stuff is hardcoded
I like the name, you saved me from brainstorming for the "edition name" (I am terrible at naming things XD)
I'll leave the link here when it's done, stay tuned!
Thanks for your appreciation!
