What's Next for Specific Decoration
Following the feedback from our Urist-loving community; we've noticed a few things.
First of all; specifying everything results in an exponential amount of recipes
Secondly, those exponentially growing reactions end up being things most people don't really need, but end up a necessary evil to give people the niche options they want.

To remedy this, moving forward:
This mod will be rebranded as Specific Decoration ULTRA. It includes every variation right down to the nitty-gritty of what the item to be decorated is to be made from. It comes with a disclaimer: 6900 reaction is a lot to handle; if your game is work-order heavy, you might want to consider our latest addition - Specific Decoration LITE. This does not mean we're abandoning this mod; we just don't want your saves to keep getting manhandled while we wait for more modding options and tweaking the reactions. (Remember; any time a mod adds or removes a reaction, it needs a new world - while we're adjusting the load times and options, every time you update, your old forts are ruined - nobody wants that.)

Specific Decoration LITE comes at the recommendation of the community, in a decentralized format: the base mod, adding ~700 reactions, and a new custom workstation specifically for decorating :
Select Inorganic / Organic / Any for the item to be decorated.
Select Decorated / Undecorated for the item to be decorated (stop Urist constantly decorating the same item)
Select Furniture, Trinket, Storage or Jewelry for the item to be decorated.
Select Stone, Wood, Metal, Glass, (Bone/Shell/Horn/Ivory), (Cloth/Leather), or anything for the decoration material.
Select Decorate, Hang Rings, Encircle with bands, or Spike for the decoration material.

4 Additional 'plugin' mods that require Specific Decoration LITE, which further breaks down the 4 categories of items - Furniture, Trinkets, Storage, and Jewelry.
Furniture: Beds, Tables, Chairs, Doors & Statues.
Storage: Bags, Bins, Barrels, Boxes & Coffins.
Trinkets: Figurines, Goblets, Instruments, Toys & Scepters
Jewelry: Amulets, Rings, Bracelets, Earrings, & Crowns

You only need to install the plugins that you need. If you never bother to decorate your furniture, you don't need Furniture reactions. If all you're interested in is making beautiful jewelry to trade, you only need Jewelry.
This way, everyone gets recipes that they need, without overcluttering the work order screen with things they never use.

More updates coming soon. Happy 2023 everyone! :D

awesome to see! can't wait to try out the new version!!! :Emil:
I'm not familiar with modding this game, but is it at all possible to say, add a button to the left of "forbid" on the item detail page called "decorate" and use that as a means to choose specific items? Kind of like how the melt button works? You could have it reset each time an item is decorated too to make sure it only does a single pass on each item.

I feel like that could be an ultra-light version without the need for really any other new reagents, or maybe just one new reagent that says something like "decorate marked item only".

I feel like that alone may solve like 80% of the issues with decorating right now, since that can be combined with already existing stockpile methods to get significantly more control over the process.

Unfortunately the native modding of Dwarf Fortress relies on editting 'raws' which are essentially tables of items that are loaded on generation. It *may* be possible to do something like that in DFHack (it's super-powerful; just take a look at 'Stone Sense'), but it's still in alpha at the moment. We're definitely considering as many possibilities as we can for this mod because it's something that DF has been lacking for a while, and we'll take your suggestion on board when it comes to opening up DFHack on release.
As DF and DFHack gets updated, we'll have a better idea of what is and isn't possible, and I definitely think that a toggle-able approach to the recipes available is a feature that we could all really use! :D

Hi! This is very exciting. Is the Lite version of the mod available currently or not just yet?
Also do you have plans to add food to the mod? The original version of DF let you choose which ingredients would be used for any given order in the kitchen.
