So, I have a snake-bodied colonist, and it's almost becoming a meme that as a melee specialist and doctor, she's had to heal herself more than the rest of the colony combined. The big problem is that no vanilla armor covers the snake body and it's designed to take what appears to be nearly half of all hits. This might be fine for nudist addermen, but for the VIPER high tech faction or any player-controlled xenotype, it's a glaring weak point.

Worse, my custom naga-esque colonist just loooves to put on flak pants... which do nothing because she has no legs to cover, but still wear out and are unavailable for someone who needs them. (Yes, I eventually made a "snek" outfit assignment...) I also use Vanilla Expanded stuff like VE Apparel, so there are gloves and boots. (Boots don't cover anything, although the character technically does get the +0.1 move speed. Also, they benefit from the thermal protection, so bluefur pants give bonus cold tolerance.) Likewise, there's a skirt clothing item in VE apparel I like to throw on for role-playing purposes, although it doesn't actually cover anything.

At the same time, the character has negative thoughts about going nude if they don't have on pants to cover the legs they don't have.

While I'm willing to put in the effort to "role-play" it correctly (with unisex skirt/kilt wearing), there really should be something in the snake body itself that says to not wear pants, and ideally something that says a body part other than legs needs to be covered to satisfy the "covered groin" requirement. Preferably, there should also be some kind of skirt option that covers the snake body, including armored skirts. I realize you can't just put platemail over a snake's belly and have them still use rectilinear motion unimpeded, but a high-tech urbworld crime syndicate probably would have thought of something to cover up their giant weak point and stop all their marine-armor-wearing sirens from going down to easy liver shots in their unarmored snake body. Maybe low-tech armored skirts that have lower protection because they only cover part of the back of the snake body, but high-tech stuff might have exoskeletal assistance that makes up for the actual body not touching the ground. (Or maybe just some tank treads on the bottom of the armor...)
