Brutal Handwork

State of 2024
Hey y'all, long time no see.

As I'm sure you're aware, I have done very little for Project Zomboid in 2024. The main reason for this is very simple: B42.

Since mid 2023 when I was really deep in modding this game, the rumor mill was churning that B42 was "just around the corner". Communication from the developers also made it seem like this was the case too, even if it was on the "Unstable" branch. As such, I postponed work on all my mods until B42 because I was in the middle of rebuilding both Brutal and Fancy Handwork from scratch (as well as a few other very "deep" mods I was working on at the time). With B42 being a massive overhaul as-is, I didn't want to have to reinvent the wheel twice, and opted to wait. Plus, I wanted a break. In my mind, the minute that I continued work and/or updated any of my mods, B42 was going to be announced/released, because of course it would be. Obviously, here we are still waiting for B42 with no real release date.

Did I make a mistake in that decision? I don't think so, but I know it frustrated a lot of people who do enjoy using the things I've created. However, those weeks waiting for B42 turned into months, and I started working on other things for other games to occupy my time. I did make some effort to try and come back into modding Zomboid a few times, but overall, it just wasn't "clicking" like it used to. It felt more like a chore or obligation that I had instead of just being fun for me.

I do read almost all of the comments that are posted on all my mods, but honestly, 90% of them are the same bugs that have been reported for a long time so I just don't respond. There's also some comments that just blame my mods for various things that have nothing to do with this, so again, I just kind of ignore them.
I've also received various private messages via Discord that borderlines on harassment due to the lack of communication (Seriously, who threatens someone because I hadn't released an update that added compatibility for the "More Traits" mod? You know who you are, shame.), and while I'm not "shook" by messages like these, they do take a toll on my motivation to actually work on stuff for Project Zomboid. I know this is the "bottom of the barrel" in the community and most of you are welcoming and wonderful people: to you all, I say thank you for your support and patience.

I've been watching the Workshop to stay up to date on the various new mods that are being released. This community is great, and some real bangers have come out this year that have really impressed me. The fact that we have working NPCs is mind-blowing to me.

I've recently played a few games of Zomboid after not touching the game for a while, and I've had a lot of fun with it. This did get the wheels churning for wanting to be a modder again, which got me back into reading the code that I had written. I think that I'm "caught back up" in reading my own code and how to mod this game; something that I would like to get back into once B42 does release.

I don't want this to come across as hate for the devs and this wait that we've had to "suffer through", as I'm sure B42 will be worth it in the end, and I just wanted to give some perspective from my end. That said, B42 will be when I return to modding for this game.

So, Fancy/Brutal Handwork, SpiffUI, etc., are just like the zombies; dead for now, but will return!

Until then, I hope you all continue to have fun surviving out there!

We appreciate you and your work man and excuse my language but ♥♥♥♥ the folks who complain if they have so many issues with the mod they can just make their own damn mod I get tired of people doing this to good modders

just wanna say fella your mod's one of the great pillars to this game tbh fancy+brutal add so much to it you miss it the moment its gone.

fortunately as of right now b41 mp at about 450 mods it works for me and my server just fine, barring some Brutal Handwork related errors that are avoidable (ie. using a certain object in primary, while attacking with secondary, will cause an error and not 'hit' anything. The solution is simply just not to hold the problematic item. Easy!
