My review - The art of war and monotony
The art of war and monotony

If anyone could reanimate the genre of single-player and co-op campaigns in Men of War series, it's Wiga. The man who impressed us with technical skill and quality in MW3 and 1946 now offers us a new campaign: Last Grenadier. Expectations were high, but unfortunately they were not met.

Story
It would seem that where else can post-WWII war dramas go? However, Wiga decides to go deeper into alternative history and examine events in Finland and neighbouring countries. The Krause and Hartmann characters we ran in the 1946 series return. Although the drama and worry for the characters is present, the story feels secondary and not particularly engaging. Moreover, for such a large story campaign, a consistent, cohesive plot is badly lacking.
Also, unfortunately very lacking in character dubbing, which already seems to have become a standard for Wiga's work.

6/10

Maps
This is perhaps one of the bright sides of the mod. The detailing, the atmosphere, the visuals - everything here is done at the highest level. Each map is a small masterpiece that complements and expands the world of 1946.

10/10

Missions
Unfortunately, this is the mod's biggest failing. All of the missions feel like some kind of exemplary "attack or defend" style exercise. There's no intrigue, no variety, no dynamics. It seems that Wiga is either tired or has run out of ideas. The frustration here is impossible not to feel. The campaign was abandoned by me after 4 missions after realising this fact.

4/10

Atmosphere
The music and soundtrack are flawless. The feeling of war is portrayed perfectly. But even here it was not without faults: the monotony of the colour scheme, which has not changed for almost 10 years in the author begins to irritate and merges into one grey mass, especially against the background of Gates of Hell.

5/10

Technical performance
Everything is perfect here. The lack of bugs and technical glitches speaks of a high level of professionalism. The difficulty is well balanced, and even on hard levels there is no sense of unfairness.

9/10

Summary
Last Grenadier is a pretty wrapper with no substance. It's done well, but where does it all go? The potential is huge, but it's as if it's not wanted to be utilised. The modification leaves a sense of understatement and clearly needs a rethink.

5.7/10
Beautiful shell, excellent technical execution, but the soul is sadly lacking.
