It adds total range when it's in a fleet.

AP stands for Auxiliary Personnel ie a passenger liner.

AO stands for Auxiliary Oiler ie a fleet refuelling ship.
AE stands for Auxiliary Explosive ie a fleet ammunition ship.
AK stands for Auxiliary Kargo ie a general cargo ship.

These are the official designations.

Hi, I'm new to this mod, so maybe I didn't look good enough. My question is about auxiliary vessels, how can I use them? I place them alongside the main fleet, putting them on patrol or on raiding convoys. I've always been interested in these types of ships in history, so thanks for any response
The intention is the same as history, they operate alongside the fleet to expand their range.

And how do they behave in battle? Are they the first to get killed?

They are considered capital ships, but I won't recommend including them in combat.
