Mount & Blade: Warband

The Last Days of the Third Age

The Last Days of the Third Age (Introduction)
The Last Days of the Third Age (TLD), is a Single Player Total Conversion modification for Mount and Blade 1.011 and Warband. The mod is set in Middle Earth a fantasy world created by J.R.R.Tolkien in his novel “Lord of the Rings” and others. TLD is inspired by the books and is not a mod based on Peter Jackson's movies.

The team's goal is to allow the player to participate in the War of the Ring, in which forces of light and darkness battle over the fate of Middle Earth (for practical reasons of war intensity, only the part east of the Misty Mountains is covered by the map).

As the focus of the mod is only in the War of the Ring, certain traditional Mount and Blade features have been disabled for role-playing reasons. These include (but are not limited to) becoming a faction leader, starting your own faction, marriages, and so on.

The player steps into the role of a new general of their chosen side (Good or Evil), rise through the ranks of the different factions, and directly influence the outcome of the War of the Ring.

Will you join the forces of Good and fend of the hordes of Orcs, Goblins, Uruks, and Evil Men while the Fellowship of the Ring completes their quest?

Or will you pillage Elven Cities, collapse Dwarven Halls, and burn down Middle Earth with the forces of Sauron?

These are The Last Days of the Third Age.

The mod features the following, among others:
  • Lore accurate map of Middle Earth (East of the Misty Mountains)
  • 2 Sides (Good vs Evil) and 2 regions (North and South)
  • 9 Factions for Good
  • 10 Factions for Evil
  • Different Races of Middle Earth (no Hobbits)
  • War System with a Faction Strength rating
  • Modified Economics
  • Faction Influence Points that can be used for Special Faction Items and Commands
  • Rank points that determine max party size, weekly resource income, and so on.
  • Traits for certain decisions and actions
  • Formations and Battle AI
  • Battle Morale
  • Wounding and Permadeath

NOTE: This mod was originally developed for Mount and Blade 1.011, and was ported to work with Warband by Swyter. This led to strange issues that was not originally found in Vanilla M&B.

That's the scope of this mod, and removing such features is part of the "Total Conversion." If you want those types of features and still have the LOTR setting, there are other mods out there (such as Blood in the West and The Veiled Stars) you can try. :)

No problem :) You should still try and see for yourself what makes this mod different from others.

I understand that it is not the direction of the mod, but Mount and Blade players have been dying for a LOTR mod that amounts to something like the Clash of Kings Game of Thrones mod, in which the core Moutn and Blade Features still exist as well as the added features. If in some way a seperate mod could be downloaded that enabled these features of conquest and starting your own faction, you would be doing the community a service.

And that is what the team doing The Veiled Stars is precisely trying to do :)

That's what's great about Mount and Blade. The setting can be the same, but modders can have completely different visions, leading to more options for the player.

Using your example, there are multiple A Song of Ice and Fire mods (A Clash of Kings, A World of Ice and Fire, and Persistent World Game of Thrones), which all have a different vision.

Kham, I understand this mod was originally made for Mount&Blade then ported to Warband. My question is:

Have the major bugs that you dsicovered been fixed? Are there any known bugs that haven't been fixed, but will?

Yes. Take a look at our Trello board for progress/bugs[trello.com]. Everything is there, nicely organized.

Finally this total conversion arrives at the workshop, i wonder if the orc army still has their pretty much invincible mounts that are almost uncatchable. Ive played this mod before its release on steam workshop and i fought a 20 men orc rider party and it took me about 15 minutes to chase down all the wolves and chop them up.
If it is, please fix this ASAP~

Because of this i always avoid running into orc armies that are 100+ because the battle will never end until all the wolves are killed. And the land pretty much ended up getting overrun by orcs and other faction with wolf mount.

Do you mean wargs?
By the way, is UK English a language option? Its REALLY annoying to have to translate from US constantly and it is how the setting was intended.
Swyter  [developer] 19 Aug, 2015 @ 12:11pm
Nope, neutral-ish English. Many people from all over the world wrote dialogs during six years. Please bear with it.

Yes wargs, if they are still that broken please fix it or let the battle end when all orcs die instead of chasing every single warg and slice them up~

Wargs aren't broken anymore in Warband, not since summer 2014.
It has rained quite a bit since then, as we say over here.

i have a quick question, i'm doing the isengard troll quest and i've checked every bit of the "foothills of the misty mountains", but still havent found any trolls, do you know if there is a glitch? i'm starting to think one of the elf patrols wandering into the area might have killed it, that or its even farther from the misty mountains than i thought.
