Same! In general, all vehicles love to spawn in rocks

I have it going on the exact same way. Here's how I'm dealing with it at the moment:

I don't do the landing on the location directly, I fly up one map cell near it, and then separate one colonist from the caravan and enter the map with him, after it loads, then I already directly specify the landing spot for the flying machine

Just had this happen but saw no explosion. It just booted me out of the map and never said anyone died but they was no trace of them at all.
