My chivalry was maxed out at 2500 and I was getting the apparently correct bonuses (+15 chivalry/day etc.) and then I spent some on upgrades. Now I have 2000 Chivalry, but it's telling me I'm "Sincere" and I need -1250 more chivalry to get to "Noteworthy" and I'm getting those penalties instead. Side note that I think the window between max bonuses from chivalry and max chivalry is too narrow.
