yea i built one

but you run thru fuel fast but you can get far on a scrap gas engine

The priority is to get a new safe spawn point and not build a car. Plus put your starting bench has to be in a safe place so the wolves can't get to it. I found it much easier to run with multiple save points. This skips the long distance spawn problem.

Slow down, grow 9 x 1 tier crops at a time to avoid raids.

Build bigger farm later on a small island when you find one and be there for the raid they're slow in water but they can swim.

Plenty of time swimming around looking for an island allowing oil collection or searching for embers for better metals.

Look for desert biomes checking for oil pools.

At least get to the woodworking bench stage to make a respawn bed before going out to far.
You can build in the HQ warehouse store room so a bed placement there MAY help.

Preferably, vehicle mounted.

Most rush it then can't appreciate the game play involves..

0.5.. As you wander around looking for materials kill wolves using sword then build & equip their armour, then wolves aren't a factor.

1..Safe base (Build on a water based rock with wooden stairs from water & up to the rock base.)

2..Upgrade to at least woodworking bench & tools / weapons.

3..Safe economic (Level 5 engine) vehicle preferably with a bed.

4..It gets easier and easier.

5.. Don't start a fortara built POI if you stumble across one, unless it's an active quest.!

6.. Trade with NPCs.!

Let's say they will get less a problem. They still will attack you from time to time. When you come near a pack of wolves the chances are especially high that they will attack you even in full wolf armor.

Especially after getting the better tools from the quests and the automatic robots.
