Inconsistent flickering issue
I'm having an issue where occasionally (almost always while underground) the entire world will flicker in and out. I'm trying to mess with the settings to fix it but I haven't found a combination which makes a difference. Admittedly it was initially with frame skipping on subtle, which I realised was conflicting- but disabling it didn't fix the issue. The issue is most noticeable when descending - falling down a hellevator or digging straight down are the 2 cases where it seems to happen the most often. It also seems to almost entirely occur underground. I'm playing on a 1080TI, ryzen 1700x, plenty of ram if any of that is important. I've had this same issue when playing thorium and calamity, though it seems to happen more often in calamity. I'm happy to provide any further information that can help fix this.

Yeah I can't say I've ever seen this before. From your comment it sounds like it could be an issue with "Background Tile Optimization", so I would try disabling that (or all optimizations for that matter) if you have it on and see if the flickering goes away.

If you can narrow it down to a specific mod conflict I could take a look, but besides that there isn't much that can be done on my end if I don't have a way to reproduce the bug.

Is there a way to see what specific mod is conflicting? I'm happy to provide my mod list: at the moment I am using alchemistnpc lite, better boss health bar for 1.4.4+, boss checklist, boss cursor, calamity mod, this mod, magic storage, ore excavator (1.4.3/1.4.4 veinminer), quality of terraria [chinese characters], recipe browser, shop expander, and wing slot extra. The issue is present with the optimizations both on and off - unless I'm supposed to restart the game/world in between enabling/disabling them.

Typically you would disable/enable mods until you find the one that's causing problems. Based on your mod list though I don't see anything obvious. You could also quickly rule out if it's a conflict by unloading all other mods besides this one and seeing if the issue is still there.

Based on the inconsistent nature of the issue you're having and the fact that this hasn't been reported by anyone else, it's probably platform or hardware specific, in which case I won't be able to reproduce it on my end.

In the past, someone had another very odd issue that I couldn't reproduce and it was somehow fixed by updating their graphics drivers. You could try that, but beyond suggestions I don't think I can help much more.
