Report a translation problem
The research is supposed to switch which you can build (regardless of location), it does not change any ships already built.
Update: Just tested it, and I can build Sabaoth Carriers after doing the research at the Pirate base. Also, I see what you mean about the time, it takes full cycles to build one Carrier - I'll probably reduce the overall debuff on the Pirate Base with the next update.
I found the issue, newest update fixes it.

The build option was what I was referring to I probably should have specified the multiple locations meant trying the research on a different pirate base to see if it was just an issue with the first base. As it still comes up as the destroyer in the description. Have built a second unit after trying the research again so will try and deploy both and see if they have an identical loadout to rule out a description issue.
Edit: Problem solved. Not sure what went wrong on previous run but is working now.
I haven't tested it, but it's likely that you'll need a new campaign - this mod changes several scripts.
