Empyrion - Galactic Survival

Reforged Eden 2 Beta
Detector Grouping prevents more than one detector type being installed.
In RE1 you could have 1 detector of each type installed, presumably because they weren't in a detector group (which seems a new addition).

So you could install a Long Rang Radar, but still keep the original Detector.
- means you didn't have to dig out your old detector before adding the long range one.
- enabled you to save power by switching off the long range when you didn't need it.
- detector was also good to use as a decoy in the ship nose as it was considered a mounted weapon.

Strangely you can spawn in a ship with 2 types of detectors (from RE1), you just can't move them afterwards.

Is this an intended change?

Detectors have two modes:
LMB = Main mode. Fires a long range detect.
RMB = Secondary mode. Fires a short range detect equal to the previous tier of detector with a longer detection duration.
Thus, you do not need multiple detectors for different ranges.

Detectors no longer function as decoys. Turrets and weapons will ignore detectors as targets.

You can still turn off detectors.

Using multiple detectors wastes CPU. This is all intended.

Thanks for the reply, I know they have different modes this also existed before.

It was more about
- decoys
- not having to dig out a detector that was buried in a bunch of blocks to place an upgraded version.
- conserving power

Good to know its no longer usable as a decoy, saves me making that assumption building my new combat vessel.

Since the basic detector has increased in CPU, and the upgrades decreased a lot in CPU I guess it makes sense to remove the old one now to save CPU waste.

Before it was nice to be able to turn off long range and still have a detector available that used much less power (being a decoy was also a bonus). I guess that is no longer viable.

thanks again.
