I haven't even noticed the barrel, I think you made your point with telling that it's to narrow.
I didn't noted the AWP in my discussion but it fits the list of exeptions for sniper as well.
And there haven't been a single weapon wich looked realistic in TF2 yet.
So I don't think this would be the first exeption for TF2. (and they shouldn't, my opinion)
I don't think that valve would like to add any kind of weapon with a texture like that on their models.
Valve made a few toy assets for the game already and none of them has this "fill paint bucket" kind of texturing. (Pyroland items, teddy bear for engy etc)
With a little bit effort in looking how the textures are made in the game you would see that there is some kind of trick/way of texturing what would make items fit in the game more easy.
