Are humans supposed to be so weak?
I'm playing as a normal human and even though I have around 12 strength and 4 power strike with a 2 handed sword my attacks are only do single digit numbers even with the speed boost from using a horse.

yea no. in Perisno armor gets fairly out of your league in the starting gear you can find around. Strength just changes what armor and weapons you can heft and your total hp (and strength related skills.) but you still need higher proficiency as that also affects damage with speed bonus/ proficiency boosts.
In Perisno, 4 Pstrike equals to a Low-Mid tier units strength.
Two hander weapons are bugged in general in Warband. While mounted they have slower animation speed and buggy hitbox range which makes them deal less damage. If you really want to use two hander weapons, Simply don't ride a horse at all.
Also i totally recommend a weapon with Pierce or Blunt damage at the start of the game since they are very effective against heavy armor, Don't use Cutting damage until 6-7 Pstrike.
A decent Lance and a One handed Hammer would do fine for a new character.
Dwarf Cities have One/Two handed hammers with insane damage if you want a strong start into the game.

What are you talking about?
Speed and damage reduction while mounted is not a bug, it's a feature. The penalty for using 2h with one hand (While mounted you hold reins with the other hand...) is -35%.

Nah. Speed bonus still makes it worth it. One of my favourite non-lance weapons for cav in warband is the great long axe.

However not being mounted is a good advice in general. Horse is just not worth it against bots, unless they are very strong, or you are alone against a lot of bots.

Ah yes, The famous Great Long Axe that Swadian Knights use for speed bonus... (Irony)
If you want ''speed bonus'' You can use about any weapon and it would deal enough damage to kill most enemies, The problem is the fact that 2HWs are terrible for cavalry since you can get sniped by rangeds and thrown weapons. 2HWs are meant for Berserker type units that follow behind their allied Horsemen.
Any blunt weapon ever is better than 2HWs for Cavalry since they bash through armour and knock out for prisoner money. Morningstar is also good too since it breaks through blocks.

Also i was talking about hitboxes in General. For example sometimes spears deal 0 damage from low to mid range which makes them quite terrible for infantry. Same goes for 2HWs aswell.
You are going to deal between 0-10 damage if you get squashed between multiple Horsemen.
God forbid you play against Tolrania Knights with that weapon LOL.
That Axe of yours is gonna be the worst weapon you could have picked in that situation.
