Fundamentally solid, but lacking polish. 3/5 stars.

Firestarter is like a chicken that's cooked really well with no seasoning. It's yet another campaign in a concrete jungle, but it has nicely detailed aesthetics and a firm grasp on the fundamentals of level design. It's never too hard, and I genuinely enjoyed my time with it. I especially like that it shows a bit of personality — survivors are chatty, there's custom assets and it even has (un)licensed music.

But alas, it has little issues in almost every area that start to pile up. The otherwise good visuals are hurt by oversaturated color correction, making it hard to see sometimes. Environments blend together and lack unique areas. Crescendo events are scarce. Navigation can be awkward, if not obtuse. Bots can get stuck. The custom Tank model also appears to be broken since he freezes in place after he dies.

Overall, I think most players would enjoy a quick run through Firestarter, but it needs polish — and maybe a bit of extra spice.
