Stages Of Infection
Here's a list explaining what the deal is with each of the 10 stages of the Zombie Infection:

  1. At first, the victim doesn't even know they're infected. The infection wont show up when looking at them, and it wont show up in your status screen, either.

  2. wounded: At this stage, the infection presents itself as a mere "infected wound" on the body part the infection is coming from. It doesn't do anything, but the victim knows that they have the virus.

  3. infected: The infection starts actually doing something by giving the victim -1 Toughness.

  4. infected(but with green text instead of white): If it wasn't already, the victim becomes dark green, and it becomes clear that they're infected at a glance. This also makes most other creatures hostile towards the victim, as most creatures don't like the idea of waiting around for them to fully turn undead.

  5. infected(same name as previous): The victim feels the infected body part become slightly weaker. Outside of potentially lowering their dodge and armor values by 1, this mostly serves as a warning for the next stage...

  6. rotting: The infected body part rots, making it too weak to actually carry equipment!

  7. rotting(same name as previous): As the infection spreads throughout the victim's body, they begin to feel ill... as in they have the "ill" status effect applied to them, but with an unlimited duration.

  8. dying: The victim now feels much worse, as not only do they have the "ill" effect still applied, but all 6 attributes get lowered. (More specifically, Toughness is lowered by 3, Agility and Strength by 1, and Intelligence, Willpower and Ego by 2.)

  9. beyond saving: The victim stops feeling sick, removing the "ill" status effect and all the previous stage's changes to attributes (but keeping -1 Toughness). They may be getting one last bit of relief, but as the name of this stage implies, it's their last chance to use what remains of their free will: If there was any chance of saving themselves before, it's gone now.

  10. zombified: The victim 'dies', and the Zombie virus takes control of their body in undeath, making them a full-fledged Zombie. Their Ego and Intelligence are decreased by 2 as the Zombie virus isn't as good as its victim at using their brain. If the victim was an Esper, they aren't anymore, and while the Zombie virus can use secret supernatural methods to emulate some mental mutations (namely Burgeoning, Mental Mirror, Spacetime Vortex, Teleportation, Temporal Fugue, and Time Dilation), most mental mutations don't survive the zombification process. Fortunately for those still living, defects still carry over, save for Narcolepsy since the Zombie virus has no intention of simply resting in peace. Zombies do end up getting new mutations, most of which are defects. To be more specific, they get Socially Repugnant, Nerve Poppy, Carnivorous, and Dark Vision, as well as becoming a Chimera.

If you become a zombie, do you just die? Or do you get to live on in un-life? Would be cool to try and infect the whole world starting as a zombie if you have the time to implement that.

When you become a zombie, the game gives you a pop-up window asking if you'd like to continue playing. From there, you can choose to either die or keep playing as a zombie! :pixelzombie:

I'm taking a break from working on the mod for a little bit, but the option to start as a zombie is a good suggestion! If I end up coming back to polish this mod more, I'll definitely implementing it (Perhaps as a free mutation in the mutations menu)
