the pstencil engine is not reimplemented and was already cut by the E3 demo. there is custom shaders for to replicate some of the lighting used for the demo and you may see other modders use it in their own projects in the future.

even though pstencil isn't here those E3 2003 shadows were awesome can't wait for modders to use them in the future

Can the restored lighting mod work with this mod?

Pstencil, and shadow volumes are not re-implemented, however the lighting system was modified and improved as Sean said above.

The main thing I really miss from the original demo is how much gunshots lit up the surrounding areas. In this release it appears significantly diminished. Like the guy on the stationary turret in the tunnel, or the SMGs in the rubble area. I wonder if that can be modified.

Those lights do all exist, but are aggressively culled due to the maximum amount of lights that can ever display at one time. This will be addressed in upcoming hotfixes, cheers.

do you know when those were cut from the engine? id always assumed it was after this, from the way you see someone complaining about the pelicans shadow volumes wrecking the framerate while developing the demo in the making of halo 2 doc

Will we be able to eventually use these dynamic lights ourselves and reimplement them into the retail game?

im skeptical of the claim that stencil was dropped prior to h2 e3. the shadows are razor sharp and shadowmap rendering of significantly high resolution was simply way too difficult to do at the time
