The whole concept of the map is that this place has gone through various ages so it has buildings on top of buildings and repurposed places, hence the medieval, gothic, industrial and modern mix all over like the prison being an old dungeon from the castle, and the government building having some old carvings and a throne room... not to count the unfortunate effects and miss management of the city. "The Truth" (according to the Sorlin church)

38 years ago, mighty Sorlin was beset by a great enemy, one whose name we must not speak of. The planes and soldiers of the Adversaries destroyed much. Their dark magics poisoned our land, even as our Miracle Bombs smote them from existence. Our world came to perdition. They did not survive, but we did. Through miracles of the Sorlin Church we have access to crops and a sustainable food supplies, locked far away. We have lost access to our overseas mines, but there is enough raw material here to recycle for decades, and rebuild our bombed-out factories. Soon we shall be strong again. But there is one danger left, my followers. At the end of the war, the dark mages of the Adversary breached our great ever-renewing Cathedral. They unleashed demons there. While our army had been reduced to a mere city guard, we were able to seal the demons in the Cathedral catacombs, completely collapsing the darkest and most corrupted halls. The enemy still lurks among us. The Sorlin Cathedral District is under indefinite partial-quarantine. All who have been forgotten and downtrodden in our city, you may find redemption here. Sorting and recycling the refuse from the bombed-out buildings, rebuilding our lost industry, and keeping the rest of the city safe from the demons beneath the Cathedral. You have already done so much, 25 years ago the entire city block before the church had been burned to ash, now only a small portion of that devastation remains. Continue to be strong wayward citizens, for on the day the last demon is slain, the Sorlin district will be reclaimed, and you will be redeemed.

Beware the Demon

Vermin: Resembles small brown crickets. Tend to swarm. Controlled by Vermin Lords.

Wretch: Small spindly humanoids with a large mouth dominating their entire face. Exelent hearing. Feral but controllable by Vermin Lords through their dark magic.

Barbarian: Large brutish humanoids. Can only be killed by destroyed dark magic flesh clusters in HEAD AND CHEST. Will remain ambulatory if only one is destroyed.

Artificer: A pail creature with six limbs, four arms and two legs with monkeylike feet. Its intelligence is a mockery of humanity. Known for fashioning crude weapons, armor, and even explosives. They can utter words in our human tongue, but only speak deceptions.

Vermin Lord:
Once among the blessed winged demigods of old, these fallen traitors turned into demons. Spiked featherless frames are all that remain of their previous wings. The foul-smelling scents secreted from their wings are used to control vermin. Instead of ruling through law like the mighty Church, they rule by using their strength and control of the Vermin to scare the other demons into submission. Like the artificer they can talk, but if they speak to you, it is only to turn you from the sacred path.

The Dark Arts are many, and some of these malign artifacts may even deceive you into believing they were created by our most holy Sorlin Church. Report any of the following artifacts.

Applied Genetic Theory: A dark tome on how to summon demons, pretending to be a work of science. It may appear as if it was penned by Inquisitor Crossburg, but this is one of its lies. Just reading a page of this dark tome allows the demons to discern the location of you and your family.

SDM Containment Canister: An aluminum pressurized canister bearing the logo of Sorlin Church’s division militant. Full of a fowl smelling grey icor. The church did indeed create these mechanisms, but only as a means of protecting you from the fluid within. Some may claim ingesting it grants you increased strength and vigor, but in truth, it will poison you and your soul. When you die, your spirit will linger in its grey depths forever. If you are truly a devout follower of the church, and you put your ear to the canister, you can hear the cries of the souls forever subsumed in it.

"Lies of the Church", by Sarah Quelt: A seemingly mundane book claiming that our fair church was kidnapping dissenting citizens during the late stages of the war, and the fates that befell them. This is but the first lie heretic Sarah Quelt prophesizes. It also claims there is no dark magic, and that the creatures that beset us are not demons. Don’t let these lies persuade you to ignore the supernatural dangers that lurk among us.

-Secret memo to Inquisitor Officer Hypecia

The sliver of our old Cathedral headquarters has been renovated so we can spy on the old Sorlin Cathedral District, or Sore Lane as the slummers call it. Systems are active and it is hermetically sealed now. This substation makes it easier to acquire genomes from dead Demons.
Continued clonal reproduction via budding has indeed caused genetic damage over time. Since they only reproduce by growing clones of themselves out of their backs, each template has marginally more mutations than the last. The decentralized two brained nervous systems of the Barbarian in particular, is driving newer generations to Bezek insanity more easily. The Demigod Class Officer’s loss of the decorative feathers on their pheromone emitters has made it much easier to classify it as a Vermin Lord. Hopefully in a few hundred years they will be too deformed to fight properly, then we can put this old super soldier project to rest.

Salutations Highest Elder Inquisitor

It was indeed a brilliant and far sighted idea to force the cities non-imprisoned undesirables to live on top of the catacombs containing our defective experiments. They end up killing eachother quite frequently. Current demon population is down 75% from last year and current Sorlin Cathedral district population is down 10%. Of course the demons will recover faster, but at their rate of degeneration they will be extinct soon without genetic renewal by retrovirus.

Unfortunately, upon further review of the Srolin Cathedral district, some abnormal threats have been catalogued. These have only recently come to my attention from Inquisitor Monde. I will take further control of this operation at your behest.
Henceforth are the issues.
1. I worry about the aberrant colony of Artificers. Most of the failed Supersolders are instinctively or culturally aggressive toward humans. However, the Aberrant Colony is trying to make peacefully contact with some of the more “secular and optimistic” members of the Sor Lane community. Please consult the other Inquisitors on what to do about this. I am enclosing camera footage of one of their conversations in this Telemail.
2. There are rumors that an illicit scientist has been dragging the corpses of demons off for study. We have camera footage of a gas masked figure dragging away the charred corpse of a Wretch. This is believed to be the scientist because they knowingly showed a copy of Applied Genetic Theory, written by you, to the camera.
3. The camera footage on the abandoned upper floors of the Sorlin Cathedral has been tampered with, it was using old footage from 3 years ago. This means someone with considerable technical knowledge has been up there. I have no idea why, all important equipment was either destroyed during the revolt of the experiments or removed after the structure was compromised. Investigation will continue.

Hopefully the new genetic research is going well. Ever since defeated the old conservative faction and revealed that Genetic engineering was the only way to fulfil the Great Unity prophecy, we have gotten stronger. So strong, in fact, that we survived the nuclear fallout from The Adversaries weapons thanks to our bunkers and genetically modified crops. I wish you best blessings as our capital continues to heal structurally and spiritually from the calamity 38 years back.
