freeze investigation 2
I am not able to solve the freeze bug myself because the problem does not happen on any of my computers. That's why I ask the community for help in a global bug hunt!

Below I list of test scenarios I need you to check a report back with the results. I will update this post with more scenarios if necessary. Report the number of the scenarios and test result.

Do not use any other nods during the tests. It's very important for problem isolation. Only use default sandbox settings unless test scenarios tells you otherwise. Always spawn with unemployed and don't change any traits.

1. Test if the freeze happens in the middle of the woods where no or very little npc spawn

2. Test if the freeze happens just by staying in the main screen for an hour or so.

3. Reduce the population of npc to allowed minimum for all groups.

4. Run game in debug mode. Open Zombie Population map from the dev tools menu. Play normally and if the game freezes observe the population map. See if yellow dots are increasing rapidly

Bump
Gingu 15 Jun @ 5:34am
I found out it has something to do with bugged npc spawns on random spots, what happened was I drove past some one room electrical thing in the forest next to the highway and when I drove past again it started lagging heavily and I have a clip that shows like 20-30 npcs just spawning there for no reason until the sound lagged out

Interesting, so it has to be something with starting profession.

1. No issue, I spawn in Rosewood outside of town. 55 minutes in and everything is okay. I went to Rosewood police station and still nothing happening.

If I die as unemployed and I will start as Police officer its also okay, after 25 minutes.

I also reinstall Project Zomboid.

Edit: After 40 minutes I am getting lags and freeze, but looks like its better if I am not in town. I will try again with reducing popuklation of NPC.

I have no idea how modding and programming works, but maybe the game stores info about all npc actions and after a while it overruns the game like a cache and restarting clears it?

Another test also in Rosewood:

- Set all NPC to 0.2. Pick up Police Office and negative perk appetive.
- 30 minutes running around and nothing so far.
- 60 minutes Entertaiment pop up and it start freezing a little bit, I guess due to low NPC so its not crashing.
- 70 Minutes unplayble I need to restart.

I think it has to be something with too many NPC and spawning. When I saw that Entertaiment pop up I started freezing.
There was someone reporting earlier that entertainment events have been spawning an 'infinite' amount of NPCs. Might be worth looking at.

We already did a test without ANY SHEDULED EVENT. That includes party houses. Still freezes

Also I added test scenario 4 that will check if the freeze is due to npc over population

I'm not sure if this is related, but my game crashes to the main menu only if I have any mod that adds apparel, even if it's a single small one

Tried test scenario 4. Got the freeze, but didn't see any change in the population on the map. Effective population was only around 140 when it happened, and it was running smoothly at 200+ before.
I'm going to set every NPC multiplier to 0.0 and see if it still freezes.

ok i finally managed to at least crash my game (without freeze), analyzing the crash report by gpt it tells me that the problem is FMOD library reponsible for the sound in the game

that was something i was thinking but i have only ran into that issue once before on Rimworld were the Audio files were being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weird. recreating them fixed the issue. still to this day we have no idea why.

it was that or an issue with windows 11 was my second idea.
Kolljak 15 Jun @ 10:24am
wanted to go though your idea's on testing before mentioning it since you know your mod better than anyone else.
Kolljak 15 Jun @ 11:18am
Yeah as of last test. No more hard freeze or crash for me, but its sub 1fps
Kolljak 15 Jun @ 11:20am
I will now test the main menu.
