FPS Drop Issue
Hi Squeek,

As i already saw in the comments, there are players who mention a fps drop while playing. I want to give you a few details about my experience with default configuration of the mod.
other enabled mods: auto retrap, extra equip slots, always on status, smarter crock pot, gesture wheel, detailed tooltips, dst picky picky picky, come into my pocket [host only], geometric placement, display food values, global player icons, dst where's my beefalo, wormhole marks [dst]

- minimap open: fps at 29
- minimap closed: fps at 29
- winter is coming: minimap vanished (that means, there is no "open minimap"-tooltip on the screen), and fps at 60. after opening and closing the default map, minimap reappears and so does the fps drop. back at 29
- your mod disabled: fps at 60
- mod wormhole marks [dst] disabled: fps at 35
- mod dst where's my beefalo disabled: fps at 46
- all other mods disabled: fps at 53

i also experienced a steadily drop, when more of the map gets explored. (the values from above are from a ~75% explored map)
conclussion: mods that add symbols to the map, in combination with your mod cause a significant fps drop.

i hope you can somehow fix this issue, because your mod is really handy.

greetings blosmaan

Similar here. The more map is discovered, the slower the game gets, even with brand new speedy internet (50Mbit/s, host has twice that up and down, we're both in northern European countries).

And eventually I sit here with 20fps, taking half a minute or more trying to put something in a chest, or just reordering my inventory (things just go back on the mouse/into the inventory slot they were after a delay). Even the HOST had only 40fps.

The genius idea of the host to turn of Minimap HUD, after his observation about game getting slower with more map discovered (repeatable after the recent update that lost map knowledge), had us all back at 60fps.

That's the mods in use in that game:

Same problem in a previous game, with minor difference in the mods.

We really missed the Minimap HUD after disabling it. I hope you can fix this! :)

I'll add my name to this.

Frame rate halved from 60 to 25-30 with the mod enabled during winter. Pretty much everything the OP stated.

Thanks for the info.

The issue is that the mod itself does very little (the entire mod is ~350 lines of code), and relies on a lot of black magic from Klei that I have no control over (almost all of the actual minimap code is in the C++ engine code). Basically, all this mod does differently than the normal game is set the minimap to visible while not on the map screen, so the problem most likely lies in the C++ minimap code (it probably isn't optimized for updating the map and rendering the game at the same time, because the normal game doesn't ever do that).

So, I'm not sure that I can do anything about this, and it would likely have to be fixed by Klei.

Would it be possible (and improve anything) to just get a bare map with roads only? No trees, beefalo, whatever, displayed in the minimap. With that stuff only in the whole world map when you press the relevant key.

Oh, and thanks for replying and looking into it! :)

As far as I know, no, that's not possible. The minimap basically exists as a pre-rendered texture in terms of how much control Lua has over it.

Ok, thanks!

Let's hope they do something that gives you more control. :)

Bummer, thanks for clearing that up!

Confirmed that this mod causes lag (FPS drops) over the long run of discovery.
Strawbunneh 30. mar. 2015 kl. 14:11
There is absolutely lag there, I can run any game out there and when my minimap is open it takes my fps waaay down

This mod also had problems with the connection.
I became bad host when using this mod, so I had to turn it off.

Goood this mod is perfect... Only if not these huge FPS drops... It suck!

i've grown accustomed to this low fps problem. what i do is i leave the minimap open at the start when i am exploring when the fps is still high, but then once i've settled down and made a base and 75% of the world is explored when the fps drops to about 20... then i minimize it to get my framerate back up.

Not a bad idea.
