Scatter Turret

Rebalance Suggestion
So far I love the concept of this turret, however it does not play out that well. It's a little too inaccurate. I get that it's supposed to fire a spray of bullets like a shotgun in increase the chance of hitting kiting target. What this turret does is that since it fires a spray of bullets, a strafing ship has a better chance to get hit by one of the deviant bullets. Whereas a standard Gatling gun would certainly miss that strafing ship, UNTIL it needs to change it's velocity to make another pass at your ship, that change often saps the fighter of it's angular velocity and gets plastered by a bunch of bullets by the normal gat. While scatter turrets can hit where a normal Gatling couldn't, they can't take advantage of this big opening and hit less overall. This problem is compounded by the fact that scatter turrets deal less damage per bullet too. Overall making it less dangerous than the regular turret. Sure you can make up for the inaccuracy with more turrets, but in order to make it effective, it requires a lot of them and isn't performance friendly.

I checked the mod file and found the scatter turret has a shot angle of 10 degrees. After doing some firing range tests @650m distanced target from a 5 turret array, I found the scatter turret has very poor dps due to too many bullets (which do less damage as it is) missing the target completely. I suggest the shot deviance be changed from 10 degrees to somewhere between 1-5. I personally like area between 2-5 degrees.

10 degrees (what it is now):

2 Degrees

1 Degree

Alternatively, If reducing the shot deviance is absolutely not an option for some reason, I recommend that it's damage be upped so that it is on par or stronger than a regular Gatling bullet to make up for the fact it will be hitting far less than normal.

Agreed on all counts. 3 degrees is about where I'd put it.
Now if only we could make each round act like a proximity flak shell ^^

Also how did you change the degree on it? I would like to set that for my own game sir.

I'm assuming you already know how to find the mod and convert it to a .zip right? Open up the "mod number ID".zip. Go to data>weapons.sbc> and look for this line of code:
<DeviateShotAngle>10</DeviateShotAngle>

I'm assuming the numbers are in degrees, and change it to whatever you want.
Thanks, Arara told me how to get there but I had issues finding the right line, dyslexia makes the lines merg and a proper search term was exactly what I needed.

Now I can't seem to convert the file back to sbm format by renaming the extention.

I never had that issue, so I can't help you there. :(
Meh, I'll see what I can find out elsewhere, Reguardless, thanks for the help WhiteWeasel.
