If you keep Crashing; Things to try.
Preparation
  • Absolute rule, keep your drivers up to date, specifically your GPU drivers.
  • Check the requirements so your hardware is not below minimum or on the edge. Mods can be the straw that breaks the camels back.
  • Opt out of any beta version of Bannerlord or any version that is not stated by the mod devs. In this case the latest version (Before War Sails).
  • See to it that the required mods are installed correctly, is the right versions and placed in the devs preferred load order.
  • Run steam as Admin, look over your system to be sure that Steam can unblock .dll files etc.

A clean install.
If this is the first time you install Bannerlord on your system then you can skip this. BUT! If you EVER had bannerlord installed this might be vital to get stuff to work depending on your previous mods and stuff.

ATTENTION!
Back up your saves if you want to go back to them later. Even if you use steam cloud, if you care about your current saves back them up. They can be found in this dir:

C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\Mount and Blade II Bannerlord\Game Saves

A clean install of bannerlord does not mean steam uninstall and reinstall. You have to purge your computer of everything bannerlord related. Here is how you do it manually:

1. Uninstall the game:
Right-click on the game in your Steam library and select "Uninstall".
Follow any prompts to complete the uninstallation process.

2. Delete remaining folders:
Steam:
Navigate to the old Bannerlord installation folder: Steam\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord and delete the entire folder. Any old manually installed mods will be left over so just delete this whole folder.

Documents:
Navigate to C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\Mount and Blade II Bannerlord and delete the folder. (This will delete your saves. Sooo back them up)

ProgramData:
Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Mount and Blade II Bannerlord and delete the folder. This is the location shaders are stored for example.

spriteData.xml:
Delete this file located in steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\GUI\GauntletUI.

3. Restart your system and install Bannerlord.

Bannerlord should now be fresh as a clean install baby.

Check the required mods.
So, to the right in the description of the mod is mods that is REQUIRED to even play the mod. The Shokuho team has even provided a load order list that includes the version number of these mods. From what I can see its the latest version of all of them. And all of them are available through the Workshop.

ATTENTION!
System access and permissions are serious business and I will not talk down to anyone that don't want to give steam full access to read and write everything on their computer, or have .dll files always unblocked. Some systems might be set up in a way so steam cant run these mods from the workshop. For those who get DLL errors or still have issues after testing everything here: Try a manual install using the downloads from Nexus:

https://www.nexusmods.com/mountandblade2bannerlord/mods/8417

You will find the required mods under the drop down menu "Requirements".

Better Exception Window
Welcome to the age of BL Modding. (Or at least playing and trying to figure out what is causing the crashes.)
This mod is a must have. Instead of getting a generic error, freezes or having to dive into ButterLib this mod gives you a crash report with easy access to what might have caused the crash, you can even access the ButterLib info by clicking "Click here" to show ButterLib Exception. Here is an image of how it looks like:

What kind of crash? How do I ask for help?
Bannerlord it self is still getting patched for weird crashes and stuff, so lets not be too hard on the devs of this mod ok?

Most mod devs wont even try to help fixing your crash if you have third party mods. So start with disabling them. The reason behind this is not because they are rude and hate you. It's because the problem can be caused by something beyond their reach of fixing.
The main issue here is that your save might already be bricked. It might not even be salvageable and this is just how it is when you play mods So save frequently. See if a previous save works.

Most people with the know-how to troubleshoot these crashes wont even look at your question if you just write "Game crashed help." or if you cant supply crash info like a exception message from Better Exception Window. REMEMBER every question you get in return to your question is only meant to narrow down the probably cause of the issue.

We wont be able to fix it for you, but we will help as much as we can.

"rglgpu_device:" Error
ATTENTION!

"WARNING : Keep environment detail setting to Medium or above to avoid crashes."
Having it lower may cause d3d crashes.

The error "rglgpu_device::create_texture_array failed at d3d_device_..." indicates a problem with creating a texture array in the game, likely related to Direct3D (d3d). This often arises from issues with your graphics drivers or the game's shader cache.

Therefore it's always a good thing to keep your GPU drivers up to date. If you still get this error after driver update you could try removing the shaders manually so there is no miss match between shaders or any old shaders affecting the game.
You do this by removing the two folders inside:
C:\ProgramData\Mount and Blade II Bannerlord\Shaders
No need to validate game files after just start up the game with the mod and the shaders will be added again. If it still persists then you can do a Validation of the game files, and in the end do a clean install if the validation don't fix it.

Reading is important
Go through their description be mind full of things like: "WARNING : Keep environment detail setting to Medium or above to avoid crashes."

or:
"RBM is NOT supported."

Most of the time its the small things we miss that breaks the game the most.

So...
If you have done a clean install, checked all the required mods and their versions. Gone over the Loadorder and started a new save. Then there should not be a problem. But we all know that is not always true. Everything down to the components that make our PC's can be a cause for an error. So things that work for others might not work for you, but remember you are not the rule, you are the exception. But that doesn't mean you should be ok with it. Use their bug report ingame or the link to their bug report form in google docs found in this thread:

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/3496296180/563626538148340284/

Supply as much info as you can and they will work hard to fix that issue.

That sounds like Steam doesn't have the permission to unblock dlls and such. It would work if you want steam on a leash. Running steam as Admin should solve that issue usually.

Great resolve, I mean if it works then it works and is worth a try. I usually get a similar gpu crash due to low memory. (But that is because I'm lazy.)

And thus why I wrote "And if your game keep crashing, post the crash message and the situation, what were you doing in the game when it crashed?"

If anyone is going to have even the slightest chance of helping you we need more info. :>

Same message as everyone? What message? I have seen several different messages flowing around alluding to very different problems.

I am having this exact same issue, my game probably lasts a minute before crashing after entering and exiting a castle on the map.
Crashed during rival moving in mission, Better exception catch:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object

I force the game to continue and it crashed another 2 times before finally CTD, the first crash triggered when I strike an enemy, second when I kill an enemy, last crash trigger when the battle is finished.

any idea why? is the mission bugged or something, I didn't promote any companion. mods run fine for hours until that point

And what is the crash message? Its an on tick issue but no one will ever know what is causing this if you guys dont post error message.

Yeah if the reference is missing it will crash on every tick. You wrote "mods" do you have any other mods running besides the required mods and Shokuho?

Do you have ButterLib installed? It should give you way more info than just "An error has occurred."

When I'm about to rescue a hostage and press the pay button or when I'm building equipment in a siege, I crash.
