I can't hire cavalry.

I bought horses, but the game still says that a riding horse is needed.

I'm not sure if you know this but there are different types of horses. Sumpter and Pack horses can't be use to upgrade cavalry. You need Horse and War Horse for cavalries.

So basically horses that require 15 riding skill to use, and some troops (like the Hatamotos) need horses that require 60 riding skill to use.

Kiso horses are used by most cavalry. Nambu horses are used by Hatamotos if memory serves correct.
