Don't Starve Together

Devon, the Hunter

About Devon!
This is a character I've been working with for the past several years for a graphic novel epic (epic as in a literary epic - it's a ♥♥♥♥in' big ♥♥♥ story) and like to include in pretty much any role-playing aspect of games I play. Because he's a silly loser that's fun.

Devon is a Vi - a species of quiet and nimble humanoids that tend to be isolationist, bird-like in their attention to visual detail and bad at understanding spoken language. They are also able to process light as food, much like plants, along with standard digestion; their gray-colored skin will dramatically change in tone based on the amount light they are exposed to, ranging from a healthy crayon black to an emaciated semi-translucency. They tend to come with understated, but brightly colored markings.

Devon, however, is misanthropic and desperately denies his heritage, hiding his features to be recognized as another humanoid species. To the point that he wears covering clothes that starves himself of sunlight and giving him a less recognizable skin tone, cutting off the blue marks near his ears (and accidentally a good chunk of ear), and implanting a fake beard that Vi typically cannot grow. Despite his largely unfounded hatred of his species (he thinks they're lazy and frivolous and typically inferior animals), he's still ridiculously Vi in psychology and can never truly escape it. This all basically amounts to him having lots of self loathing and generally racist attitudes.

He mostly spends his time traveling with a small band of loved ones or living in the woods by himself. When in a town, he quickly devolves into thuggery and thieving simply because it's the fastest way to earn a buck and he's pretty damn good at it. His remarkable dexterity and speed come at the cost of his strength and intelligence - he's a sly idiot that would be taken out if you could just hit him.

His bird (oh so cleverly named Birdy because Devon is a genius) is the second in his line of trained and bred birds. Birdy is his baby and his constant companion in the wilderness; she helps him keep watch, hunt and presumably make sure his hair is correctly preened.

At one point, Devon sustained severe injuries, causing a near death experience. What he saw was a wasteland of souls being devoured by an endlessly long boar, which soon crushed him. Since then, he's had bouts of paranoia and hallucinations of the wasteland, the boar and it's overbearing and ominous wails.

You can respawn birdy into your pocket through the console with c_give("birdy",1)
