Ladder Tutorial
Here's a quick tutorial on a reasonably practical way to use ladders. Most of this relies on skilfull use of the "lock" function, which locks a piece in its last position and prevents it from being accidentally knocked over. Lock is enabled by pressing the L key while hovering over, holding or box selecting the object(s) you wish to lock.

Prior to placing ladders ensure all of the surrounding hex terrain is in place and locked. Ladders are designed to fit against the side of standard hex terrain and be stacked on top of one another. Ladders can be placed by dropping new segments on top of lower ones, but it is advisable to lock the lower piece before adding another.

In gameplay figures CAN make use of the ladders as follows:

1. Right click on the figure you wish to mount the ladder. On the toggles menu deselect "auto-raise", "grid" and "snap". This should allow you to place your figure on the terrain at the base of the ladder. Once in place adjust the "Raise height" (controlled from the slider bar in the top centre of the screen, the little weight lifer icon), such that when you pick up that figure it moves up in height equivalent to one terrain tile.

2. With your figure grabbed position it next to the first ladder piece and with the mouse button still held press the L key. This will lock your figure in place on the first rung.

3. To ascend a second rung, grab at the locked figure and again with the mouse held down. Press the L key to unlock the figure, it will move up by the raise height relative to the position it was last at rest this means every time you lock, unlock and raise your figure can be made to ascend one ladder rung.

Mastering this procedure allows a figure to be moved up a ladder far faster than repeatedly fiddling with lift height. Once your figure has left the ladder you will want probably want to re-enable grid, snap and auto-raise for that figure.

Hey, thanks for uploading the instruction on how to use the ladder. I'm currently experimenting with it, but I'm having issues with the 3rd step. You say to grab at the locked figure and press L to unlock it, and it should move up by the raise height to the next level. however, with it being locked, i'm unable to grab it and unlock it at the same time. I need to unlock it first before I can grab it, and this usually puts it back down to the bottom of the ladder. any help, suggestions? appreciate all the work and effort.

You should try the move gizmo (F8), select the object and move it around by dragging its axes. This allows you to be more precise than using lift height and can be used to move locked objects about.
