Suggestions for the soundtrack
Hy there. Im so far enjoying this mod but Id like to make a few suggestions in regards to the soundtrack. I assume you used the original midi files from the games but id suggest you try out to add some more "up to date" versions as well.

As an example, here we have the "Hermes" from the fanmod Wing Commander Saga.

But Id ask for permission first.

Also, George Oldziey, the composer of the originals is doing a high quality orchestral recreation of the OST so it might be available at some point as well.

Yeah, I've got the soundtrack on my computer since it was released, though I'll have to ask them for permission. Plus, given that they already offered me their models to use in-game, I don't want to take too much until we've got enough done by ourselves, but thanks for the suggestion! ;-)

As for the musics from the new disc of Mr. Oldziey, I'm deliberately not going to use them, because the guy has just these made and unlike the old MIDI tracks, he is actively making money out of them. The tracks from the games? Well, technically, they're not too free of use, but I'm not making any cash, the main WC site, which is in good standing with EA, offers them for free download, so... yeah.

These new ones? Nope. I'm not going to steal the livelihood of a good man. Not unless he gives me explicit permission to use them. I hope you understand my point of view here. :-)

Oh I perfectly understand your point, even support it. I actually wanted to suggest you ask him for permission as well but after already mentioning that with WCS it felt like some unnecessary extra.
That said I think if you do decide to contact him I think you have a good chance to actually get the rights. The man put a lot of effort into re-orchestrating the original soundtrack and I think he would appreciate it if his works were featured in any WC related work.

I still think it would be better to wait a good year at least. Ideally, I'd like to have our own soundtrack...
