[2019] DEEP ORE POLLING / CUSTOM PLANETARY ORES
Q1: Do you like having deep ores?

Q2: Do you want custom ores on planets?

Feel free to add why/why not and/or any other feedback.

-----------------------
Edit: Added Q2, I ask because I just found out they basically entirely redid the planetary files so updating this mod to include custom planetary ores and deep ores would be a large undertaking.

My opinion: I think we should retire the BS deep ores, but I will wait to see what most people think first.

From a gameplay standpoint:

- After playing without deep ores on the experimental version a week or two ago, I felt like the vanilla depths were deep enough.
- On the moon you can't hardly find the right ores to make ion thrusters early on.
- On alien planets you can't hardly see the ore patches.
- It leaves the "vanilla" feel more than I think a lot of people like and seems to also have somewhat fallen out of fashion. I think it was in fashion just because a Deep Ores mod was "front paged" once.

From a sustainability standpoint:

- It is one more thing that could cause this mod to break the game if it gets updated and I'm not around to fix it.
- It's also a really time consuming fix when things have to rebalanced. Like the next post-hotfix patch.

Please let me know what you think!

thanks for the mention, from our standpoint on clear gaming server we have been enjoying the deeper ores, it is harder early on with vanilla drills, but with the mods that we use it works very well and brings together players to overcome the challenge. also with the new stone to ore mechanic i think it makes sence that more resourceful ores are more difficult to obtain

I'm more on the side of without the deep ores, but that's just a personal preference~ :)

Interesting and excellent. I would like more! Thank you very much.

I'm good with removal of deep ores it's one less thing to maintain on this already awesome mod.

I'm with LazyMaestro on this one. I enjoy the ore variation, the depth of the ores doesnt matter too much to me, and if its less work/maintenance to skip the deep ores then no worries

same with lazymaestro and spite if it requires less work for you and your excellent mod then i am all for going without deep ores

We use Better Stone on our server primarily for two reasons:
1. It makes obtaining ores a bit more interesting since finding them is more of a challenge, but also extracting them from 400m deep makes for more interesting engineering.
2. Having huge ore veins means that investing time and resources into a mining operation makes sense instead of just looking for the next speck of iron or gold.
(3. Having the variety of ores makes things more interesting as well)

I haven't tried the new ore gen so I don't know if those points are covered well or not, as such I wouldn't know if we'd run mods the next time around or just stick with vanilla ore gen.

My worlds primarily focus on planets so personally I'd LOVE to keep the custom ores on planets. The depth added by the ore is amazing. We need custom ore on both planets and asteroids. But if it's not to be, it's not to be. Thanks again for creating this mod.

Deep ores and Betterstone have good ideas together, challenge and fun to go into depth for found some goodies. You can add coal to Betterstone in depth and ice can do heat steam power with new steam boilers, engines, balloons ( can by makes like h2 tanks but on heat steam) . Becose uranium gone from planets, Betterstone can add coal reciples to mayby some new assembler and get uranium from synthesis ores with coal . Its complicate but have future and fun. Good luck.

without deep ores ... make it easy on yourself,
you are not getting paid to maintain it so .....

On the one hand, with the new mechanics for trace elements in stone the deeper ores are actually less punishing, and seem more interesting. But at the same time, the need to edit all the planet definitions, and the fact that modded planets don't benefit, makes it a questionable benefit for the effort put in to it.

I'm happy enough with the more interesting ores in space if there's no simple way to implement planets.

Okay! It sounds like a lot of people prefer the deep ores.

It so happens I was just looking at the source files. I LIED. Sorry, apparently they didn't make things more difficult. They just moved the planet mat-location image raws but the edits are all still in one file. I should have looked more closely the other day.

Since it seems like most people prefer deep ores, and it's an easy fix after all (I'm done, just need to playtest it a little), deep ores coming right up!

@Everyone
Thanks for your input. Just spent the better half of two hours flying around making sure things worked after updating/adjusting all the recipes.

If you get this, let me know if there are any bugs!

Planetary ore data is restored to its pre-update state. I found about 70 new updates to the planetary data that were added now into the mod's planetary data file.
