Unit Names
Third Age Middle Earth features unit names from the lore for all trainable units however; this feature has been disabled in the published version. Trainable unit names work because of looped “change name in area” triggers which are continuously running and can cause severe lag especially in low performance machines. Starting names, such as hero, building, and settlement names, are still displayed but trainable units will have their regular AoM names. If you would like to see the awesome trainable unit names from Lord of the Rings, you can do one of the following:

1) While in-game, enter “names on” in the chat box. This will enable unit names for your faction without significantly increasing lag but will not affect names for other factions’ units. You can disable loop names by entering “names off” in the chat box. You will not be able to enable names again once you have disabled them.

2) Enable other faction names of your choice. To do this, follow these five easy steps.

2a) open Third Age Grand Campaign.scx (or Third Age Khazad Aimenu) in the editor
2b) go to “Triggers” in the top right and select “Trigger Editor” from the drop down list
2c) in the trigger group dropdown, scroll to the bottom of the list where you will find the “Loop Names” group
2d) all of the triggers in the “Loop Names” group will be titled something like “Gondor Name Loop” for all 12 factions, check (x) next to “Active” to enable the loop name triggers for the factions you want, you may activate names for all factions if you so desire but be warned that this may severely increase lag
2e) save the scenario or save as with a new name that you will remember

Whether you chose to enable or disable the loop names will NOT affect unit stats (protounit stats) in any way. The names are purely aesthetic. Loop names cannot be activated in the multiplayer Third Age: Divide and Conquer scenario.

A note for the Steam mods: an AoMEE update including the trigger effect "change protounit name" would eliminate the need for any of this. Just throwing that out there...
