Guide to Rohan
Synopsis

Rohan has the best cavalry in the scenario but they don’t come cheap. Rohan’s natural enemy is Isengard which has equipped itself with strong infantry to country the Riddermark’s horsemen. However, Rohan should be able to lay any enemy low with a skillful combination of fast raiding and heavy cavalry attacks. Rohan’s greatest flaw is its lack of ranged units. Its fortresses launch additional arrows but, asside from Eowyn who is good at downing Fellbeasts, they are the faction’s only defense against flying units.

Rohan’s forces rely on their mobility and power to crush enemy formations with heavy Rohirrim (Hetairoi) or Ridermark Riders (Jarl). The charge of a full army of Rohirrim Guard is nearly unstoppable and only a fool would engage such a force in the open field.

Note that Eorling Infantry (Huskarl) are the only unit Rohan can use to build with so the starting four must be preserved until the Heroic Age. These are also Rohan's only infantry unit and they fail to match up to Isengard's heavy Uruk-hai. Eorling Infantry are best reserved for building - let the cavalry do the fighting.

Rohan lacks infantry, siege, and ranged and relies entirely on its heavy cavalry to roll through the enemy. Clearly, a degree of strategy is required here. Rohan is weak assaulting heavy fortifications with walls and towers (not something the AI typically builds but good to keep in mind for Divide & Conquer).

Eliminating Isengard should be your primary concern but keep an eye on Gondor. If your ally comes under attack from Mordor, Harad, and Rhun simultaneously, they will need your help to stay alive. A couple heavy cavalry assaults should check Mordor and Harad until you have dealt with Isengard and can turn your attention east.
