Do we really need gun skins?
DISCLAIMER: I am by no means hating, but I'm curious about what everyone else thinks.

I can understand the uniquness of having a custom weapon, but it's honestly peer pressure to purchase non-gamechanging items. Are skins really necessary? If so, do they really have to have various qualities? I sure as hell don't want a repeat of CS:GO, with paying top dollar for good conditions and crate gambling... it's a cheap way to earn a pretty penny without any real effort.

Its a possible thing and its supported from what i know with info on how to make them for workshop here: https://tripwireinteractive.atlassian.net/wiki/display/KF2SW/KF2+Weapon+Skin+Creation%3A+Getting+Started

" Are skins really necessary?" There were included in the previous game, if they left it out it would be kinda weird from what i think, plenty of people always bought the DLCs for KF1

CS:GO shouldn't be the only game entitled to customization, people want customization and show off.

From the vid in the description, it looks like it has levels of quality, or "use". If they do decide to go with the whole crate thing, ill be VERY disapointed.

This, this would in turn also most likely mean it will be paid. PLEASE NO.

Also, don't plaster your brand on the items, it's a cheap excuse for advertisement.

This is a cheap rip-off of theRedline, Asiimov, and other such skins for the weapons in CSGO. And it looks just as crap, too.

Subtlety wins way more points than an unoriginal design, IDC.

EDIT: I agree with Gheist, sticking a plug for your community on there reeks of desperation to be noticed by Senpai Tripwire and makes you seem ridiculous.

This.

I'm up for wasting my money every once in a while.

Honestly i would like it in the "GEAR" Menu you could change the skins of weapons in the game. I agree skins shouldn't be a paid thing

As long as the gear opening thing is there i'm fine, it sounds awesome. But yeah maybe paid skins wouldn't be so great idk, i'm fine with it.

TW has never stated if these would be random drops or if the weapons will be able to use the Steam Market/Trading feature.

It shouldn't be the only game, but this is Steam and everything must be ripping off some sort of valve game.
As if it wasnt bad enough people always compare KF (or pretty much any game that is about guns and zombies) to L4D, Any cosmetic wear is TF2, and weapon reskins are CSGO.

... um... duh? Of course your gonna need to pay for it, like in the first game.
"Vote for community-made items you want to see in the game"
TW has yet to set up the downloadable workshop version of KF2. Thats where you can download your maps and mutators.

If you don't know who IJC is, then you must be new to this game.

They don't need to be noticed by "senpai" when they have already worked with them for a few years now.

I've played 200 hours of kf and about 50 of kf2 and no, i don't know who ijc are, and i don't see how that's relevant to the point i was making, even if i were knew to the game.

Aside from that yeah fair point, paid cosmetic and content dlc were already a thing in kf1. But two things bother me; that dlc didn't come untill a good while after the release of the complete game and the cosmetics skins didn't have "quality-levels" a la csgo.

The point is that you said its a cheap advertisement for them, but they were already selling you stuff in the first game, they don't need to be advertising themselves... except to people like you.

Because TW is all about the money now (we already have to many DLCs for a EA game).
Where are you seeing this quality level thing? I need a source.

If this is a thing, then we can still change TW mind about it, this is EA after all.

For the quality level thing take a look at the shotgun's video on the workshop page, it shows different levels of wear and tear for the aa12. I also never claimed certainty on this actually making it into the game, i just expressed worry at the possibility of this. But if this would indeed be a thing, then how far off are crates and such?

Other than that, no i don't agree, they don't need to advertise in-game, in-game advertisements are always a bad thing, and adding something from the real world into a game always ends in something immersion breaking as a result. I'd rather have a horzine aa12 skin than a ICJ skin.

Even if it isn't intended as advertising is still looks weird and out of place.

I think that the chivalry crossover content (while it didn't deserve developement time so early in developement) is handled much better, but yeah you're right, this is still EA, and things can change, if they do turn sour.

I forgot about that video.
I dont know where that rest of the part comes from but it can also be a cosmetic choice (think buying this gives 3 different variant choices). I really hope there isnt a random crate thing, im already getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on with Dirty Bomb.

IJC is also the name of their fictional company in KF. Its not my design, they can do whatever they want. If you don't want to see it, then don't vote for it.
oster 2 Sep, 2015 @ 11:20am
Oh IJC is actually in-universe? that makes it sorta more acceptable i guess.
Morbus47 2 Sep, 2015 @ 11:55am
Sorry to burst you folks' bubbles, but paid skins were already stated to happen in KF2. Both player and gun skins are going to be a thing once the game is in a more finished state. Just like the old KF, you can buy player skins, different variations of weapons (including gun skins), and different weapons entirely. No, that doesn't make the game pay-to-win, it's for those who want to support the company and get something in return for it. I'm all for skins/reworked weapons in the game. It makes it so much more dynamic. So, in short, yes, they're adding skins. No, not the 'gamble' CSGO style, you get what you buy, and that's that. No wear and tear, etc.
Anos Voldigoad 2 Sep, 2015 @ 12:01pm
I'm actually curious if they do decide to go down the random skin/crate drop route similar to CS:GO. As far as I know this will be the first non-competitive game to implement such a thing.
