It should do somewhat little damage but have advantages in other ways,
It could also make an alert sound for enemies passing through it, to let teammates know they need to help the engineer.
The alert would also trigger for disguised and cloaked spies, so the engineer could reliably place it in a spot where their teammates could take advantage of careless spies.
If it did act like more of a wall it could replicate the effects of the medics wall in MVM, but slightly different.
I believe at this rate it would do good to serve as a sentry replacement, because a wall to block bullets as well as a sentry would be overpowered.
It would spawn with at least 2x the amount of heath a sentry would have, possibly with a levelled up one having 3x the health, and can be upgraded, with the downside that it costs 200 metal to build, and cannot be repaired or picked up, only destroyed.
This would provide addequite means of fighting, as an engineer would need to commit to building one, and defending it.
It destroys projectiles but doesn't stop bullets.
Projectiles that hit it explode, causing the shield damage.
It could also possibly sap spy cloak or medics uber to recharge some lost health.
Just some ideas, I don't think they should ALL be used but just some minor concepts to toss around,
