BF II Roleplaying
So I was thinking about a roleplaying group for BF-II. I can get everything set up to make it work, but I need to know if anyone's actually interested in this first. So, do y'all think there will be room for this in the BF-II, or even the greater m&b community?

Hey, thanks for your interest in the mod and its community. There have been two RP servers in the past(2016, and the other one in 2017) as far as I know, however their existence was mostly short lived due to the fact there weren't any supporting 'gamemodes' which would suit RP. Deathmatch is too random and confusing, battle only offers one life, and they all suffer from the fact the maps run out and reset in certain time. But there was certainly interest.


Now the situation is somewhat reversed, there is a Conquest gamemode which allows you to extend a game up to 3600 tickets, and it can last for hours on end. You can make diverse spawnpoints on a map, and there's a spawnpoint selector. However, the mod population(and Warband Multiplayer's, in general) has shrinked tenfolds. It'd be nearly impossible to sustain an RP server without a closed, dedicated community.

Sorry for the discouragement, but I don't want anyone wasting their time and money into something that probably won't work. My advice is to wait for the next update(Should be out by April) and with some new gameplay features and factions maybe interest will be renewed.

I tried this once, didn't work. You just can't drum up enough support for people to want to join. If you want to check the remains of my clan look at my profile groups.

The concept isn't neccesarily difficult and it has been done in the base warband, but that was back with the Warband Script Enhancement addon was actively updated and you were capable of enacting server commands with the in game text chat. That would be the only real viable way of issueing commands and having an actual inventory. Though without writing from scratch or trying to update, you would have quite the road ahead of you in that regard.

As Marko mentioned, we don't want to discourage you from the task, in fact I encourage it. However, the amount of time and effort you would have to put forward has a greater chance of being unprofitable, so to speak.

If you have any questions about the conceptual basis on where to go from here, you can add me and I can try and discuss through all the points upon which you would need to cover, as I once pitched this idea indepth myself.

Thank you all for the advice and support. I'll certainly continue to look for support for this through discord and other roleplaying groups which I'm a part of. (I actually just discovered the BF II discord today.) That said, I really don't know how far I will be able to take this project on my own, though I do have the support of some already-existing roleplaying groups, so I don't expect that I will have to work on my own.

Axwen, I'd definitely like to hear more about your previous pitch and your ideas.

That's pretty reassuring. I kind of dropped this for a bit because the person I was going to be working on this with dropped off the planet, and it's a bit of a big thing to take on solo. I should have time to restart working on this in a month or two, but until then I'll have to keep this on the backburner.

yes please implement roleplay servers maybe you can implement emotes and what not like pk does i would love to see roleplay in BFII and i would very much enjoy it

I have to revoke my offer to assist with this aspect of the module as my time is consumed elsewhere. I will still try and support where I can, but I'm am no coder within Warband.
