Bridge

Suggested changes.
After having experimented a bit with the bridge that doesn't come with ramps, I have a new suggestion.

1. Make each bridge require the other's engram before you can build it. So stone bridge requires wood bridge's engram, metal bridge requires stone's engram.
2. Remove shroom from all bridges.
3. Stone and Metal bridge should not be using Thatch or Fiber to construct as they are already using cementing paste.
4. Metal Bridge should not be using Wood to construct. Probably not even flint, but I can live with that, assuming its used in shaping and such.
5. Delete the Ramped bridges, they aren't needed based on what I saw with the non-ramped bridge. But leave the hanging wood bridge for old fashion type hanging bridges.
6. Delete "make longer" because people will use it only to skimp on building materials. With this gone, you can make the bridge cheaper to build. Just make sure to keep the snap point on the end of each bridge so you can snap the next one there. Also making it lighter too.
7. Add width controls, maxing it at 5, maybe even 10. You might also add a snap point to the side of the bridge so you can snap another one side by side with it and delete the requirement for width controls. Also making the bridge cheaper to make. Also making it lighter too.
8. You have a toggle rails button, add a toggle supports button. OR, add the ability to snap pillars to the bottom center which would be purely anesthetics but would look so much nicer than a long large floating gravity defying bridge. I prefer the toggle supports button, which will add support beams to the bottom that go all the way down to the ground no matter where you place it. Adding physics too so things collide with the support beams like you have with your rails.
9. Add a "short bridge" if you do 6 and 7, that will cost half the materials and work like a ramp.

All bridges should still be able to clip through the ground and stuff too but should also count as a structure so that no giant rocks or trees try to spawn in there.

1. yes! good point
2. nope
3. I imagined them to be used for the virtual scaffolding, but i guess you're right.
4. i will reasonably reconfigure that
5. I thought so too. we'll see... as you can snap ramps it should not be needed anymore.
6. only scale sideways? well, why not. and lighter, yes they will be a bit lighter!
7. complicated, see 6.
8. you can snap pillars in all 4 corners for now. the no ramp versions have no default supports...
9. there is a switch to short bridge.

Snapping and Collision overall is beeing worked on.

2. Why? Its dumb, but it doesn't matter as I stopped using this mod because of all the issues I have with it. :P
8. I'd like pillars in the middle though, not the corners, but I guess thats complicated so meh.
9. I mean add an actual item, short brdge. So you can save on half the material cost of building the bridge.

I stopped using this though because these bridges defy physics, floating there in mid air. On top of that, they require a shroom to build for no reason whatsoever, can be resized, etc. I don't like that they can be resized at all. They should be static on size and obey physics and equire support.

There are mods out there that can detect how many materials you need before you can complete a structure too, so you can do a "how far to the ground" detection thing like this one laddar mod did. Or you can require the user to brng along 10x ceiling in order to extend the length of the bridge by 10. Someone once also mentioned about adding physics to things where if it requires support and doesn't have it, it only breaks if you try to walk on it, so yo ucan place stuff without it erroring and saying you need a support beam, but if you try to walk on it, it will fall. There's something to consider as well.

Adding my thoughts here rather than making a new thread for suggestions. Railing size should either be fixed, regardless of bridge size, or adjustable, so that smaller/narrower bridges have proper sized railing. My testing with smaller scale bridges typically meant that railing was only about knee height, and situations arose where it was very easy to simply fall off of bridges.

Again, adding to the above comments, would it be possible to make a bridge that has a base built and snapped to the side of a foundation, another base snapped to a facing foundation side (as in between 2 tree platforms) and the bridge dynamically slung between these 2 base platforms?
Such a system might let construction costs scale with the intended span (the base could act as a workbench that crafts the appropriate bridge)
Suggested tech tiers - wood/rope and metal/cable.

Is ist possible to get the old version from 2016 WITH free placement of bridges (for PVE) ?
We liked the mod as it was, most disturbing thing is that all structures around bridges snap totally in a wrong place.
